The Role
We're looking for someone who is passionate about supporting people with additional needs to thrive in a workplace setting, while helping to run a busy, welcoming community cafe.
As part of The Hive Cafe team, you'll play a key role in creating an inclusive environment where trainees and students with autism and learning disabilities can develop confidence and practical skills. Alongside this, you'll contribute to the day-to-day running of the cafe--ensuring high standards of food, drink, and customer service.
About You
You'll have barista experience and a passion for great food, coffee, and community. You'll be creative, hands-on, and enthusiastic about helping others reach their potential through meaningful work and training opportunities.
Main Responsibilities
Support and mentor trainees and students in partnership with their learning or support providers
Work across both front and back of house, providing friendly, professional service to all customers
Operate the coffee machine and kitchen equipment safely and efficiently
Assist the Chef and Cafe Manager in developing creative and innovative menu ideas
Prepare and cook food and beverages to a high standard
Maintain excellent hygiene and food safety standards at all times
Help to promote the cafe through social media and website updates
Attend regular team meetings and events with senior staff and other Rathbone projects
Work in line with the values, policies, and procedures of the Rathbone Charity
Requirements
A genuine interest in working with and supporting people with additional needs, with a positive and inclusive attitude
Willingness to learn and develop skills in support work and mentoring
Good understanding of front-of-house operations (training provided as needed)
Barista experience and enthusiasm for great coffee (additional training available)
Basic food preparation skills (training can be provided)
Strong awareness of food hygiene, health, and safety regulations
Excellent attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and presentation
Highly self-motivated, organised, and able to manage time effectively
Ability to work collaboratively with a range of groups and projects within a shared community space
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Commitment to delivering outstanding customer service
Flexibility and adaptability to take on a variety of tasks and projects as needed
