We provide services directly to people who are homeless, or who are at risk of homelessness to overcome any barriers they may face in creating a stable life for themselves in their community.

Our cafe plays a dual role in generating income and providing volunteering opportunities and career development for individuals who have faced homelessness in Edinburgh.

About the role

This role will involve customer service, food and drink preparation, general cafe tasks, ordering, and additionally supporting and mentoring our volunteers within the cafe. The successful applicants are proactive, can work flexibly and efficiently, as well as having a calm and compassionate nature.

KEY DUTIES

- Some food preparation, including takeaway - making of sandwiches, paninis, rolls, baked potatoes etc

- Food service - hot food, cakes, snacks

- Hot drinks preparation / barista style coffee prep

- Stock rotation and manage supplies

- Opening and closing the cafe

- Cash handling

- Customer service

- Maintaining health and safety standards, including maintaining high standards of cleanliness and completing necessary records

- Assist with training new and existing staff and volunteers

- Delivering training activities one-to-one to our volunteers to achieve independence in multiple areas of cafe work and increasing their employability

- Communication with the whole team in order to ensure continuity

- Carry out any other duties within the general scope of the post, as directed by the Manager/Assistant Manager

Pay: 12.60 per hour

Experience:

Hospitality: 2 years (preferred)
Work Location: In person
