Founded in May 2014, The Hive is an established education company focused on Outdoor Learning and Forest School. We offer holiday camps and school workshops for children aged 5-13 in and around London, as well as accredited Forest School training for adults. We recently opened a small Forest School nursery in South East London and are currently developing a residential camp offer to launch in 2026. The Hive is unique in the UK, bringing together outdoor learning, narrative and gamified challenges in a Forest School setting.

Detailed

Our holiday camps are based on the concept of "Hive Missions": week-long immersive adventures and projects where children and young teens explore, create, problem-solve and collaborate in the outdoors. Each mission falls into one or more categories: Stories & Adventures missions focus on storytelling, immersive learning and crafts; Bushcraft missions focus on outdoor survival skills including whittling, shelter building and fire lighting; Grow, Cook, Eat missions challenge the groups to cook outdoors, often focusing on provenance and sustainability; Makers Lab missions are designed as mini professional projects, often focusing on DT skills such as hand and power tool use, woodworking and 3D design; Science & Tech missions focus on using technology in an outdoor setting and entrepreneurial skills; Creative Outdoors missions focus on art, filmmaking, drama and more. Groups might be searching for lost pirate treasure, building and designing push-pedal Go Karts, living as a Viking for the week, taking part in an outdoor cooking competition, learning about different street artists or planning the technology they'll need to summit Mount Everest. With over 70 individual Hive missions, no two weeks are the same!

The Camp Director is responsible for leading and supporting the team of Mission Facilitators to deliver a week of dynamic and enjoyable outdoor sessions to children and young people aged 5 - 13 years, in a safe and positive environment.

As the main point of contact on camp for all facilitators, campers, parents, and host venue contacts, this role is paramount to the success of The Hive.

You will have a strong background in the management of an Outdoor Education setting, or equivalent, and the ability to communicate our education offer to parents with authority. You will need to be organised, safety conscious and confident in leading a facilitation team of between 3 - 15 people. You will enjoy communicating with parents and keen to chip in with the mission teams as and when needed. You will also be responsible for ensuring any additional health or learning needs are met and will lead on all First Aid on site.

Our facilitators are a vital part of our team and many stay with us for years, as members of our supportive community. Our small Camp HQ team (our Head of Camps, Logistics Coordinator, Curriculum Coordinator and Team Assistant) are there to support you throughout your time with us. They work on the ground and focus on developing a real sense of teamwork and shared responsibility to help you deliver the best possible camps.

The benefits we offer include fees above the London Living Wage, long-term contracts, access to subsidised external training courses, free breakfast, end of week drinks and social events, discounted training opportunities on our Forest School Training courses, staff discounts for parents, and a fun birthday celebration, should your birthday fall during camp ?.
