About Us
Hillcroft is a busy, friendly care home providing high-quality care and support for our residents. We are seeking an experienced Interim Consultant / Turnaround Manager to provide short-term leadership, stabilise governance and support our Deputy Managers while we recruit a permanent manager.
The Role
You will act as the on-site senior lead for 2-3 days per week, working closely with the Provider and two Deputy Managers. Your core purpose is to:
Ensure the home remains safe, compliant and well-led during a period of transition.
Strengthen governance, quality monitoring and documentation (audits, care plans, risk assessments, incidents).
Coach and develop the Deputy Managers to confidently lead the service day-to-day.
This is a hands-on role. We are not looking for a "paper-only" consultant, but someone who is visible on the floor, engages with staff, residents and families, and can calmly steer the team.
Key Responsibilities
Provide visible leadership and support across the home on your consultancy days.
Review current care plans, risk assessments and daily records, prioritising highest-risk residents.
Strengthen and streamline the audit programme (medication, falls, pressure areas, environment, care plans).
Oversee incident, accident and safeguarding processes - investigation, documentation, learning and follow-up.
Support safe medication governance, including CD checks, error reviews and action plans.
Review and support staffing, deployment and daily handover, ensuring safe and effective shifts.
Provide guidance on CIW notifications, local authority safeguarding referrals and Duty of Candour.
Coach and mentor the two Deputy Managers in:
Leading shifts and handovers
Managing families and complaints
Escalation and decision-making
Contribute to and maintain a simple, effective governance framework (daily logs, weekly reports, action plans).
Prepare the service for regulatory / commissioner visits and support any action plans.
About You
You will be an experienced, confident leader who can quickly understand a service and focus on what matters most.
Essential:
Previous experience as a Registered Manager or Senior Manager/Consultant in a residential or nursing care home.
Strong working knowledge of CIW standards, safeguarding processes and Welsh legislation / guidance.
Proven track record in turnaround, improvement or stabilisation work in care homes.
Excellent understanding of:
Care planning and risk management
Medication governance
Incident and safeguarding management
Audit and quality improvement
Able to coach and empower deputies, not just "do it all yourself".
Calm, approachable and able to build trust quickly with staff, residents and families.
Strong written skills for reports, action plans and regulatory correspondence.
Desirable:
Experience working with local authorities, commissioning teams and multidisciplinary professionals in Wales.
Experience supporting homes during or after regulatory enforcement or heightened monitoring.
Job Type: Freelance
Pay: 300.00 per day
