Job Description

Job Purpose



To prepare, cook, and serve nutritious, balanced meals for residents, taking account of individual dietary requirements, cultural preferences, and medical needs, while maintaining high standards of food safety, hygiene, and cleanliness in line with legislation and CQC requirements.

Key Responsibilities: Preparation & Cooking



Prepare and cook meals in accordance with agreed-upon menus and portion control Ensure meals are nutritious, well-presented, and appropriate for residents' needs Prepare specialist diets, including: Modified textures (soft, minced, pureed) Diabetic, low-salt, gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan, and allergen-free diets Adapt menus to reflect residents' preferences and cultural requirements

Food Safety & Hygiene



Maintain high standards of cleanliness in the kitchen at all times Comply fully with the

Food Safety Act

Environmental Health

requirements Ensure correct storage, labelling, rotation, and temperature control of food Complete and maintain food safety records, including temperature checks and cleaning schedules Report any food safety concerns immediately

Health, Safety & Infection Control



Follow infection prevention and control procedures at all times Use PPE appropriately and safely Report hazards, accidents, or equipment faults promptly Comply with COSHH regulations when using cleaning materials

Stock Control & Ordering



Monitor stock levels and report shortages Assist with ordering food supplies within agreed budgets Minimise food waste and ensure cost-effective use of resources

Communication & Teamwork



Communicate effectively with care staff regarding residents' dietary needs Work cooperatively with colleagues to ensure smooth meal service Respond positively to feedback from residents and staff

Safeguarding & Professional Standards



Maintain confidentiality at all times Be alert to safeguarding concerns and report in line with policy Act in a respectful, caring, and professional manner consistent with the home's values

Health & Safety / Compliance



Adhere to all care home policies and procedures Participate in mandatory training, including: Food Hygiene Infection Control Safeguarding Health & Safety Attend supervision and appraisal meetings as required

Person Specification: Essential



Experience of cooking in a commercial or care setting Knowledge of food hygiene and safe food handling Ability to prepare meals for special dietary requirements Good organisational and time-management skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Desirable



Level 2 Food Safety Certificate (or willingness to obtain) Experience working in a care home or healthcare setting Understanding of CQC standards relating to nutrition and hydration

Physical & Environmental Demands



Standing for extended periods Manual handling of kitchen equipment and supplies Working in a hot kitchen environment
Job Type: Full-time

Pay: 12.21 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
