The Catering department provides a diverse and inclusive range of catering options across several outlets at LSU. Providing a high-quality customer service, whilst preparing, cooking, and serving food and drinks. The department includes JCs & SU Kitchen Catering, The Daily Grind, Humpit, and Subway, as well as providing catering services and expertise across LSU at varied events and hospitality functions.

Job Grade
LSU Scale 3, currently 23,830 - 24,101 per annum. Offers will be made at a pay point appropriate to the skill and experience of the successful candidate. Appointments made prior to April 1st will be eligible to be awarded an increment in accordance with the annual increment process
Job Purpose
To assist with the overall running and success of LSU's Catering Outlets, including stock control and ordering, sales, and health & safety.
To ensure all food safety, food preparation, cleanliness standards and excellent customer service are always maintained.
To provide supervision and support the student staff team within their designated area to ensure their duties are completed to the required standard and always maintained.
On shift support for a designated area of responsibility - responsible for the prescribed activity in that area and/or outlet.
Job Duties
Catering Outlet Management -
1. Managing the highest standards of health, safety and hygiene throughout the operations, complying fully with regulations and good practice .[LM1]
2. Assisting with the creation of staff rotas to fit the department requirements.
3. Responsible for ensuring food preparation is carried out and completed for all relevant catering areas.
4. Monitor service delivery and ensuring all products are suitable in line with portion control, consistency of food provided, whilst also ensuring minimum waste during preparation and service.
5. Assisting with the ordering, taking deliveries and storage / rotation of stock where required.
6. Providing a consistent and high-quality standard of customer service, serving, and preparing food and drinks throughout the relevant catering outlets to specification at all times of operation.
7. Ensuring catering outlets are presented and maintained to a high standard at all times both front and back of house.
8. Ensuring completion of opening and closing checklists, cleaning schedules, and temperature checks.
9. To be responsible in the first instance for dealing with customer complaints and any refunds that are required to be given[SC2] , along with the paperwork to coincide. Any issues should be escalated to a manager for assistance.
Team Supervision
10. Conduct inductions and training of casual catering staff as required in designated areas.
11. Motivate, train, develop and assist all catering assistants to support a strong team ethos and staff development place.
12. To ensure all staff that are working in your relevant areas over 6 hours are given a 20-minute break and these breaks are taken at appropriate times.
13. To ensure that staff are aware of fire evacuation procedures.
14. To provide feedback to casual staff members on shift to in support of delivery standards and accurate processes. .
15. To ensure issues which can't be resolved on shift are brought to the attention of the Catering Manager.
Additional
16. Complete all mandatory training, and ensure familiarity with all LSU Policies and procedures relevant to the role.
17. To undertake other work that may be deemed commensurate with the role.[SC3] [DG4]

Conditions of Service
Salary
LSU Scale 3, currently 23,830 - 24,101 per annum. Offers will be made at a pay point appropriate to the skill and experience of the successful candidate. Appointments made prior to April 1st will be eligible to be awarded an increment in accordance with the annual increment process. This role will be offered on a temporary basis to cover a maternity leave until the post-holder returns to work.
The appointment will be subject to LSU's Terms and Conditions of Employment. Benefits include contributory pension scheme (Aegon), health care cash plan membership, enhanced statutory holidays, staff discounts and access to university facilities.
Hours
This position is offered full-time, 35 hours per week. Hours are assigned by a changing weekly rota dependant on business requirements. Night, evening and weekend working will be a regular part of this rota. Whilst LSU supports flexible working wherever possible, requests will be balanced against organisational need.
