About the Centre for Doctoral Training in Green Industrial Futures and our Team
The EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Green Industrial Futures (CDT-GIF) is delivering the next generation of global leaders in the energy transition through a world-leading, interdisciplinary whole systems research and training programme to realise the green industrial revolution. The centre brings together four of the UK's leading universities and facilities in industrial decarbonisation : Heriot-Watt University, Imperial, University of Bath and the University of Sheffield. https://greenindustrialfutures.site.hw.ac.uk/ 100 students will be trained over 5 cohorts, conducting research in technologies and systemic approaches that will be adopted to lower industrial emissions whilst ensuring a just and economically-viable transition, including carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS); hydrogen & sustainable fuels; CO 2 aEURremoval technology; and energy & resource efficiency.aEUR
Detailed Description
Based at Heriot-Watt University's Riccarton campus in Edinburgh, the role holder will be responsible for implementing our CDT's accredited training and professional development programme. This varied role will involve liaising with academics, students and training providers and ensuring high- quality delivery and management of all related processes. The programme is delivered through a number of residential training events, held at Heriot-Watt and our partner universities, as well as regular online training sessions with the students.
The role-holder will be an energetic, self-starter with an ability to make decisions and work to deadlines. Reporting to the Centre Manager, you will work closely with the CDT Director and Management Board, focusing on ensuring the smooth administration and delivery of the training programme. In addition the role holder will also be involved in aspects of ongoing student recruitment and handling ongoing enquiries from current students.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Contributing to the recruitment of new CDT-GIF students
Supporting the on-boarding of students to the CDT-GIF, including registration
Ensuring the delivery of a high-quality student experience, including taught courses and transferrable / professional skills training
Coordinating, planning and timetabling of all training events and liaison with training providers.
Formulation of the programme for the fortnightly aEUR~Frontiers Forum' and supporting delivery of the Annual CDT-GIF Conference
Supporting the functioning of the aEUR~Student Leadership Committee' (SLC), which consists of representatives from across the universities and cohorts of the CDT and meets online monthly in term-time
Building internal and external networks to enhance the training experience
Contributing to periodic (typically annual) reporting to EPSRC in the form of documents and analysis
Managing students' marks and grades, updating course items in Banner and GCM as appropriate
Report and presentation creation and delivery at management and governance meetings
Education, Qualifications and Experience
Essential Criteria
Honours first-degree level education or equivalent
Knowledge and experience gained in an industrial, research, academic training context.
Experience of interaction with industry, preferably an understanding of the research areas needed to deliver green industrial futures, with a demonstrable ability to network in this community
Evidence of critical analysis skills and organisational / administrative capabilities
Strong administration, organisational skills and project management.
Evidence of excellent interpersonal, writing, information-management, presentational and communication skills, demonstrating an ability to project a clear vision of overall objectives, create a sense of common purpose among training providers members, and encourage them to contribute to this goal
Evidence of efficiency, working under own initiative to strict deadlines, planning skills and decision making.
Experience in use of MS Office and other relevant IT packages
Experience of considering aspects such as aEUR~Equality Diversity & Inclusion' in the context training
Desirable Criteria
Experience of UK HE Sector, particularly the doctoral and postdoctoral training environment.
Experience of engaging with students.
Possess knowledge and personal experience of academic syllabus development and delivery, in the secondary or tertiary education sectors; have experience of Masters level taught- course education.
Experience of academic project management

Flexibility in working patterns may be needed in order to accommodate events taking place outside non-standard working hours, such as during the residentials The University is committed to facilitating flexible working and this can be agreed by negotiation. Occasional UK travel may be required.
