Job Purpose:

The Central Operations Assistant plays a key role in supporting the Operations team across a range of functions, with a particular focus on customs compliance and loss prevention. This role is based at Luton Airport and involves close collaboration with the Loss Prevention Manager and Operations Coordinator to ensure operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and reduction of shrink across the business.

What We're Looking For

Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks effectively. Experience in customs clearance or logistics operations is desirable - Full training will be provided. Familiarity with HMRC customs procedures and systems is desirable - Full training will be provided. Knowledge of loss prevention practices and retail operations. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Proactive, agile, and a collaborative team player. Ability to work independently and take initiative in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Customs & Compliance Support

Provide customs clearance instructions to third-party logistics providers. Maintain accurate records of customs clearance activities, including MRN tracking. Implement and monitor customs warehouse procedures to ensure HMRC compliance. Manage customs warehouse data using the Descartes system. Ensure compliance with C945 tobacco processes for Irish Ferries operations. Support the Operations Coordinator with customs clearance duties during periods of absence or holiday cover.

Loss Prevention & Shrink Reduction

Collaborate with the Loss Prevention Manager and store leadership to implement loss prevention strategies. Monitor and ensure compliance with cash handling procedures and store-level reporting. Track shrink results and support stores in developing and executing action plans to reduce losses. Ensure regular communication of deterrent messaging across stores. Conduct targeted reviews of base and warehouse operations, identifying risks and implementing corrective actions. Generate timely and relevant loss prevention reports to inform stakeholders and guide decision-making. Assist stores with data mining to identify anomalies and support resolution efforts. Conduct focused B Right compliance checks and support stores in meeting standards. Perform random delivery checks to ensure compliance with delivery protocols (e.g., Chanel deliveries). Attend and support stock inventories, ensuring accurate preparation and integrity of stock counts.
