About the Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic and commercially minded
Charity Shop Manager
to lead our charity shop on the outskirts of Chelmsford. You will be responsible for managing all aspects of the shop's operations including managing a team of volunteers, delivering exceptional customer service and maximising income to support the vital work of Danaher Animal Home.
Key Responsibilities
Retail Operations:
Ensure the smooth running of the shop, maintaining high standards of presentation, cleanliness, accurate pricing and stock rotation.
Income Generation:
Drive sales to achieve and exceed targets through effective merchandising, Gift Aid recruitment, promotions and community engagement.
Team Management:
Recruit, train and lead a team of volunteers, fostering a positive, inclusive and supportive working environment while ensuring all health & safety guidelines are adhered to.
Stock Management:
Oversee the intake, pricing and display of donated stock, ensuring compliance with safety and trading standards. Identifying items that are suitable for our growing ecommerce activity.
Customer Service:
Deliver excellent customer service, acting as a positive ambassador for the charity at all times.
Administration:
Maintain accurate financial and administrative records, including cash handling and daily banking.
Health & Safety:
Ensure all shop activities are compliant with health and safety regulations and charity policies.
Who we are looking for:
Essential
Proven retail experience, ideally in a supervisory or managerial role
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities
A proactive and flexible approach
Ability to motivate and lead a diverse team of volunteers
Basic IT skills (e.g., Microsoft Office, EPOS systems)
Full, current driving license with ability to provide cover and visit head office for meetings/trainings
Desirable
Experience in the charity sector or managing a charity shop
Visual merchandising skills
Knowledge of Gift Aid processes
