5 days a week working alternate weekends, 7.00am - 3.00pm
Ensuring that residents have a nutritious and well-balanced diet is a crucial part of providing support at Sutherlands Care Home. This is a role which really makes a difference to the lives of others. We are looking to appoint a chef with a personable and warm approach, who is motivated and passionate about the quality of the food they offer, and who has a genuine interest in the wellbeing of our residents.
As a chef at Sutherlands you will be responsible for ensuring that all of our residents' special dietary requirements are taken into consideration. Dietary requirements can range from food intolerances to personal dietary choices and health problems such as dysphagia. In this role you will also be responsible for ensuring all health and safety and environmental standards are achieved and maintained. You will be responsible for the management of the kitchen which includes the staff rota.
Duties as a Chef:
Prepare and cook breakfast, lunch and evening meals based on a set menu which you have been involved in creating and ensuring quality standards are met
Create an enticing, varied and balanced menu for their residents
Ensure all food is prepared in a timely manner
Follow proper food handling and sanitation procedures
Assist with catering events as needed
Ensure cleanliness of kitchen and hygiene standards is always maintained
Maintain a clean and organized work area
Collaborate with the kitchen team to ensure smooth operations which includes managing and the kitchen staff rota, ordering and managing supplies, hygiene and cleaning standards, menu planning, training of the relief chef and maintain discipline in your work environment
Take into account any special dietary and allergen requirements
Ensure sufficient food stocks are ordered, received and controlled through suppliers and that effective stock management is maintained
Organise specific themed food events and activities for the benefit of residents
Experience:
City and Guilds or NVQ qualifications (or alternative training)
Previous experience (minimum 1 year) as a cook or in a similar role
Knowledge of food safety regulations
Person Specification:
Ability to work in an organised and disciplined manner
Strong attention to detail
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Assist in leading and motivating a team
You will need to be able to work well in a team and be comfortable liaising with other staff, volunteers and residents.
Organised, enthusiastic, committed and methodical in approach.
