Baobab Bach is delighted to announce this exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, creative and innovative cook to work with our growing team. The organisation re-distributes surplus foods into communities, saving edible food from landfill through our network of Community Pantries. We also grow fresh fruit and vegetables on several sites.
Based in our hub in Kenfig Hill, this is a new venture to prepare and deliver ready meals, refrigerated and frozen, to people in our communities who would benefit from this service.
You will be required to use surplus foods alongside store-cupboard staples and other ingredients to produce ready meals for delivery to our members. You will also be required to preserve foods when relevant.
A good team player, you will have to be able to work with volunteers and other staff, interacting with the public when necessary. You will also have responsibility for food hygiene and HACCP systems along with the day to day running of our kitchen. A small number of refreshments will also be required for our Community Drop-in area.
Experience of cooking within a school, residential care home, canteen or refectory would be preferred.
Must be able to reliably produce a variety of nutritionally balanced, healthy and tasty meals to appeal to a variety of tastes.

Part Time Cook (25 hours/week)
The purpose of this post is to produce ready meals, as far as possible from surplus foods, for Baobab Bach's new home meal delivery service to vulnerable and housebound people in the community.
You must be a creative and imaginative cook, able to prepare meals from a variety of ingredients. Menus will have to be formulated depending on the foods available. Preservation of surplus foods will also be required.
You must be a good team player, able to work with volunteers and other staff, giving guidance/training where needed.
Essential Qualifications
1. Food hygiene level 2, preferably level 3.
2. Food allergen training.
Required Experience/Skills
1. Experience working in an environment where large numbers of tasty, nutritious meals were made daily, e.g. residential care home, school, canteen or refectory.
2. Experience of cooking with a focus on tasty traditional meals.
3. Innovative approach to food - creative and innovative with ingredients.
Duties
1. To assist in the setting up and maintenance of HACCP systems.
2. To complete all health and safety and food hygiene documentation as required.
3. Prepare and label refrigerated and frozen ready meals for distribution. Preserve surplus foods by dehydrating, pickling etc.
4. Develop menus suitable for the local community.
5. To have excellent awareness of dietary needs and food allergies.
6. To work with a team of volunteers and staff, giving guidance as needed.
7. To manage and work with the online ordering system.
8. To work alongside the Operations Manager to ensure efficient supply of foods and delivery of finished product.
9. Ensure that the kitchen and surrounding area are maintained in a clean and hygienic condition.
10. To assist and support development of other activities within the company as required.
11. To carry out any other reasonable duties as required by senior management.
