JOB DESCRIPTION - childcare assistant



The childcare assistant is responsible to the Manager and Deputy Manager and team leaders where relevant.

Duties will include:



Adhering to the Policies & Procedures of Noah's Ark and compliance with the Children Act 1989, national minimum standards, childminding and daycare regulations, Health and Safety legislation, UNCRC and within the guidelines of CIW national minimum standards.

Awareness of and following all company risk assessments, contributing to risk assessing as and when required and visual risk assessing throughout your shift.

Ensuring confidentiality is maintained in the setting at all times, awareness that this extends beyond the working life and anything learnt outside the setting should not be discussed.

have a duty of care to safeguard children in the setting and report where needed following the safeguarding policy and procedure. The duty of care to report extends beyond the working life and should be at the forefront of your minds at all times.

Working as part of a team.

The care and supervision of the children.

The planning and preparation of activities, to meet children's individual needs, themes and routines in the setting, liaising with parents and ensuring effective communication within the setting.

Seeing parents in and out of the setting working in partnership with them to support the children in their care.

Offering all children equal opportunities with regard to their religious background, racial origins, gender, disabilities, cultural or linguistic background; in particular, challenging situations where racism or discrimination is displayed and holding an awareness of terrorism.

Keep development records and observations of children up to date both in their files and on the online learning journey

Positive management of children's behaviour according to policy.

Preparation, care, cleanliness and maintenance of the playrooms and equipment.

Supervision and effective mentoring of Students

Providing a good role model for Students and helping new staff to fit into the nursery.

Keeping and monitoring accident, incident and other records including medicine, nappy change

Effective interaction with children in the setting.

Supervision of meals and mealtimes and, where appropriate, preparation of babies' bottles.

Laundry duties and cleaning as required

Attendance at staff meetings as arranged by the Nursery Manager.

Participating in regular parents' evenings, publicity, open days and children's outings, team building events and health related events

Any other duties appropriate to the post as directed by the Nursery Manager.

Person Specification - childcare assistant



Must have a minimum of NVQ Level 3 Education in Childcare or be willing to work towards.

Must have first aid, food hygiene, child protection training or be willing to undergo training for.

Must have understanding of the importance of equal opportunities, environmental awareness and have knowledge of the foundation phase framework or be willing to train towards.

Must have some understanding of the children act 1989 and Health and safety requirements

Basic understanding of Welsh or willingness to learn

Able to work independently using own initiative as well as collectively part of a team

Happy welcoming and approachable personality

Must want to work with children and enjoy spending time with them

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Permanent, Apprenticeship

Pay: From 12.21 per hour

Expected hours: 16 - 40 per week
