The Childcare Manager will be expected to provide high-quality, flexible childcare for families from the local communities. They will oversee day-to-day nursery operations, to the highest standard and in accordance with the organisation's ethos and vision, ensuring that the best possible learning environment and utmost quality of care is provided for the young children who attend the nursery.
Duties and Responsibilities
Operational Responsibilities
To be responsible for the smooth day-to-day management, staffing and organisation of the setting
To manage all aspects of staffing such as rotas, supervisions, training, mentoring, holiday allocation with liaison with Senior Childcare Manager and HR
To ensure setting follows the organisation's ethos vision and curriculum, creating a welcoming and family friendly environment for all
Ensure policies, procedures and protocols are embedded and followed
To work cooperatively with the Senior Childcare Manager and the organisation's other nursery managers, contributing to the strategic planning, monitoring, evaluation and development of YMCA Lincolnshire's nursery provision
To be responsible at all times for high standards of care and education of all children up to five years in accordance with statutory requirements
To support other nursery managers to cover leave and sickness
To ensure the EYFS is promoted and delivered throughout the setting, ensuring that all statutory requirements are fulfilled and all principles adhered to
To ensure effective communication between staff members and teams, and with partner agencies
To order and maintain equipment and resources in the nursery
To be responsible for admissions in line with the admissions policy, as agreed by the Area Manager and senior management team
To keep a register and up to date records of all children using the provision, in accordance with the appropriate legislation and guidance
Championing on-going continuous improvement throughout the setting
Ensuring setting complies with all guidance and legislation as required by Ofsted
To provide regular feedback to parents regarding their child's development and progress through termly reports, annual parent consultation meetings and at other times as required
To manage enquiries, questions, complaints and request for support in the first instance, in line with YMCA policies and escalate to Area Manager as necessary
To be responsible for organising and managing the induction, training and monitoring of students and volunteers at the provision
To act as Designated Safeguarding Lead for the provision, being responsible for ensuring that children, their families and staff are safeguarded appropriately
To ensure that the setting actively promotes inclusive practice and supports children who have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities
To lead the implementation of the EYFS and cascade knowledge to other staff members
To oversee and ensure that all childcare workers are administering and maintaining relevant records and reports, such as accident, incident and medication forms, learning journals, tracking, assessments, termly reports and other records as required
Managing all staff at setting to ensure that they are all fulfilling the requirements and responsibilities of their individual roles. This includes ensuring that all cleaning jobs are carried correctly and in a timely fashion and the food provided is prepared appropriately and in accordance with the settings healthy eating ethos and the Nutrition and Mealtimes Safe Working Procedure
Encourage all staff to work together in a respectful and collaborative manner
To be aware of, keep up-to-date with and actively implement the settings policies and procedures to ensure all legal obligations are fulfilled in accordance with current legislation and guidelines
To ensure punctuality and effective time keeping at all times
To attend training programs and staff meetings as required and be flexible in attending additional social activities such as Christmas parties and similar
To adhere to the dress code of the nursery at all times
To ensure that mealtimes with children are a time of pleasant social sharing
To be committed to developing and maintaining a multi-cultural, anti-racist, non-sexist environment, respecting the individual differences of children, their families and colleagues.
Providing comfort and warmth to all children, particularly at times when children are upset or unwell
To establish and maintain close liaison with all families of children who attend the setting
To be responsible for ensuring all staff have current and up-to-date knowledge of children's individual allergies, health and development needs for self and whole staff team
To work with external agencies and professionals to support children with additional needs
To work with setting SENCO, ensuring that appropriate referrals and Education, Health and Care Needs Assessments are completed in accordance with guidance and submitted in a timely fashion
To ensure that all staff are following support requirements specified within an EHCP
To be the responsible person on the site
Maintain confidentiality as appropriate and in accordance with GDPR policy
Supervision and Management of People
The post holder will be responsible for management, supervision and appraisal of: Deputy Manager, Room supervisors, all other childcare practitioners (Unqualified, Level 2 and 3 Workers), volunteers, and other staff as required such as cook etc
Undertake induction of new staff, drawing up of staffing rotas, monitoring of staff to inform staff development needs and other activities as required
From time to time there may be a requirement to manage the work of staff who are appointed for supply work or to provide supervision for students on placement
To act as a role model for staff, demonstrating expected behaviours and mentoring staff as required
Finance and Administration
To be responsible for the control and storage of all resources and consumables, minimizing waste and requesting stock replenishment in a timely manner
To be accountable and responsible for day-to-day financial systems directly relating to the nursery
To ensure that the LCC funding hub submissions are submitted
To be responsible for ensuring expenditure is kept within the budget limits set
Take payments from parents and record appropriately in accordance with the nursery procedure
To have day to day responsibility for the planning of the care and education in the nursery and for the use of other resources, and for ensuring the site is clean, safe and welcoming for families and staff
Ensuring all child records are up to date, completed appropriately and stored in the correct manner
To undertake regular audits of special books/learning journeys to ensure they are completed weekly
To be an authorised signatory for orders and staff timesheets to an agreed level of delegation
To be a key holder for the nursery and responsible for responding to alarm call outs
Liaising with YMCA Maintenance to ensure premises are regularly maintained and faults reported
Marketing
To monitor and maintain the private parent's nursery Facebook and other social media page.
To positively promote the setting when conversing with existing and potential families
To actively seek opportunities to promote the provision in local area, including attending local events
Training and Development
To organise, manage and lead monthly staff meetings, ensuring a defined structure is followed
To identify training needs of all team members and support their personal development through mentoring, regular supervision and work reviews
To assist in the supervision and training of students on placement with in the setting
To assist the area manager in planning and delivering organizational wide staff inset training days
To be proactive in seeking out and attend personal training opportunities
To undertake regular continuous professional development
Health and Safety
To ensure that the highest standards of health and safety apply to both children, staff, parents and visitors, maintaining a safe and secure environment
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of food allergies and an awareness of all children with allergies
To conduct risk assessments and ensure up-to-date knowledge of existing risk assessments
To understand and implement all policies and procedures in relation to staff, buildings and resources.
Maintain any additional measure deemed appropriate by the organisation and government during events such as pandemics like COVID 19
Creativity and Innovation
To have a key role in planning and monitoring of all aspects of the nursery and implementing essential policies and procedures, through the use of creative thought together with an informed understanding of statutory requirements and best practice for childcare.
To identify, develop and implement creative ways to engage parents and support family needs
To consider and promote opportunities that embed the setting within the community
Develop a range of resources, opportunities and events to support parents to extend home learning
Contacts and Relationships
The Nursery Manager will be expected to build good working relationships at every level, working in partnership with parents and families. The Nursery Manager must be approachable, friendly and able to communicate effectively at all times with a wide range of people, including internally: all staff employed for the day care provision, children, wider YMCA services (finance, HR, maintenance, etc.); and externally: Ofsted, parents and families, staff from a wide range of other agencies and settings (Children Services, Health visitor, Early Years Specialist Teachers, specialist services and a range of voluntary /private sector organisations and other early years providers, etc.)
