The Children's Service Lead is responsible for the setup and day-to-day management of the domiciliary care service for children in Peterborough. This includes ensuring regulatory compliance, safeguarding children, recruiting specialist staff, and delivering high-quality, person-centred care tailored to children with disabilities and complex needs. The role works closely with schools, families, healthcare professionals, and commissioners to build a trusted, responsive service.
Duties
Lead and supervise a team of childcare professionals, ensuring adherence to care plans and best practices.
Develop and implement engaging programmes that cater to the needs of children, promoting their development and well-being.
Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and staff to provide updates on children's progress and address any concerns.
Drive initiatives that enhance the quality of service provided, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
Collaborate with IT teams to utilise technology effectively in managing records and communication.
Maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for children, staff, and visitors.
Support staff training and development to ensure high standards of care are consistently met.
Qualifications
Qualifications: Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health & Social Care - Children & Young People pathway (or working towards)
Experience: Minimum 3 years managing children's care services or equivalent leadership in complex care
Knowledge: Children's safeguarding, SEND framework, EHCPs, and complex care procedures
Skills: Staff management, child-centred planning, multi-agency collaboration, clinical oversight
Values: Compassionate, child-focused, safeguarding-driven, inclusive
IT Literacy: Experience using care software systems, Microsoft Office, digital recordkeeping
Desirable: Experience working with local SEND teams and education partners
Core Tasks & Responsibilities
Pre-Launch (June-August 2025)
Develop service Statement of Purpose tailored for children's care
Appoint, onboard and train care staff with SEN and complex care experience
Register the service with CQC if needed and develop safeguarding policies
Coordinate training for staff on child safeguarding, autism, epilepsy, PEG feeding
Engage with local SEND teams, schools, and healthcare professionals
Prepare documentation systems and risk assessment tools for children
Launch community outreach and local marketing for referrals
Operational Management (from August 2025 onwards)
Manage and oversee care delivery ensuring child safety and compliance
Maintain up-to-date care plans, EHCP links, and safeguarding logs
Supervise carers, deliver supervisions, and lead team meetings
Respond to concerns, incidents, and referrals in a timely manner
Build ongoing relationships with families and external professionals
Ensure quality monitoring through audits, spot checks, and satisfaction surveys
Contribute data to internal dashboards and quality improvement plans
Prepare for CQC inspections and local authority reviews
