To actively promote the rights of young people as individuals and provide them with quality care in accordance with the policies and procedures of the organisation. To assist in the provision of a safe and homely environment both individually and as part of a team to help young people achieve their potential by strengthening areas of weakness and developing areas of strength. This will entail the ability to work within Equal Opportunities and Quality Assurance framework and may include undertaking delegated responsibilities for designated tasks. The ability to maintain confidentiality of young people's information is also important.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Work as a member of a team to meet the Physical/Emotional/Social Needs of Young People
To promote, safeguard and protect the welfare of each young person
Assist in the development of new techniques and approaches to child care provisions
Establish and maintain positive and trusting relationships with the young people that will promote their sense of security and encourage development of individual interests and attitudes.
Observe and assess the behaviour of Young People while providing firm, consistent and fair boundaries in respect of their behaviour and employ appropriate and agreed sanctions
Promote the development of a healthy lifestyle for Young People and ensure that appropriate medical help is provided in cases of illness and accidents
To engage in and supervise day to day care practices, creating an accepting environment conducive to the positive personal development of each Young Person
To undertake in planning for and preparation of Young People for admission or discharge, to and from residential care.
Team Membership
To attend and contribute to staff meetings, child care reviews and other forums
To work closely and in co-operation with carers, social work staff, specialists, and other professional agencies, maintaining professional relationships at all times
Participate in the staff appraisal scheme and make positive use of supervision by senior staff
To undertake training to Diploma level and other appropriate training as part of overall professional development.
Administrative
To undertake routine administrative tasks and provide written reports using to appropriate software relating to Review, Progress and Incidents and maintain the Young Person's file as required
To undertake financial management and recording of day-to-day petty cash
To carry out duties in accordance with the health & safety at work act, adopting safe working practices, in accordance with the organisation's policies and procedures
All duties and responsibilities will be carried out in accordance with the policies and procedures of the organisation
