Hopkins Machinery - Ted Hopkins Ltd are recruiting for a

HGV Driver (Class 1)

to join its team based out of our Newport head office. We are the main dealer for Kubota Agricultural machinery in South east Wales, As well as Kramer Telehandler & Wheeled Loader dealers for their construction range, plus Club Car golf buggies and Toro machinery. We have an extensive hire fleet of Telehandlers, Club Car vehicles and 4x4 utility vehicles both Kubota and Kawasaki. Our customers range from golf courses, hotels, farms to festivals throughout the UK and local customers.

Role

As a

HGV Driver (Class 1)

, you will be responsible for; safely operating large articulated lorries (Category C+E) and some smaller rigid HGV's to transport goods, requiring daily vehicle checks, efficient route planning, supervising secure loading/unloading of machinery and other equipment, adhering strictly to driving hours & road laws, completing delivery and collection paperwork, and maintaining communication with dispatch/customers for timely deliveries. When not driving you will be expected to support all company activities and work with other departments where possible.

Duties

Operate flatbed lorries and other commercial vehicles in accordance with road safety regulations and company policies. Plan routes efficiently to meet delivery schedules while adhering to legal driving hours. Load and unload cargo with care, ensuring items are secured properly for transit. Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle, reporting any mechanical issues promptly. Maintain accurate documentation related to deliveries, mileage, and vehicle maintenance. Communicate effectively with dispatchers and clients regarding delivery times and any unforeseen delays. Follow all health and safety protocols during transit and loading/unloading procedures.

Qualifications

Proven experience as a delivery driver, preferably with flatbed or commercial vehicles. Valid driving licence suitable for operating large vehicles (category C or CE). Prior experience in commercial driving, with a strong understanding of road safety regulations. Ability to handle physical tasks involved in loading and unloading cargo safely. Excellent organisational skills to manage routes efficiently and adhere to schedules. Good communication skills for liaising with clients and team members. A clean driving record with no recent endorsements or violations is preferred. Candidate:

The ideal candidate will be someone with experience working in the event, plant hire/construction or agricultural industry, having knowledge of the machines used by these industries. They will have good customer interaction skills, be able to work well with others, as well as having knowledge of logistics. The preferred candidate will have experience in driving a range of vehicles.

Other information:

23 days holiday plus bank holidays (Extra day after every five years' service - capped at 28 days after 25 years)

Monday to Friday normal working week

Standard Start time 08:15 and finish time 16:45 (8 hour day 30 minutes deduction for lunch break); However these can vary depending on customers requirements.

Would be expected to be available to work on some weekends in the summer.

Candidate must be willing to spend nights out in the vehicle when required.

Overtime is paid.

Will be assigned a dedicated articulated tractor unit (MAN TGX480)

Must have no current driving offences on licence

Salary:

Hourly rate of pay. 40 hour week. Overtime is at standard rate. Wages paid monthly.
