Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity to join our well-established Occupational Therapy service at Guy's Hospital and Cancer Centre. Working closely with the Clinical Lead, this role will support service leadership within our large Occupational Therapy Cancer Team, with oversight of inpatient wards, outpatient services, and group programmes. The post also covers a small Renal and Urology service, working with patient groups with similar complex needs.



Alongside leadership responsibilities, the postholder will carry a small caseload of the most complex cancer patients attending our cancer outpatient clinics and support the delivery of group programmes. Applicants must demonstrate proven experience in cancer rehabilitation, including managing symptoms such as fatigue, sleep disturbance, brain fog, and peripheral neuropathy.



We are seeking a flexible and supportive leader, able to manage a dynamic service and support team development. The role includes ensuring service delivery, recruitment, training, supervision, and contributing to wider cancer training programmes, networks, and external forums. The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge of government and clinical drivers, with the experience to contribute to ongoing service transformation. We require a candidate with a strong commitment to, and experience in, quality improvement, research, and audit, in line with our service where projects are regularly presented at national and international conferences.



To lead, develop and support staff within the cancer and renal service, leading on service improvements and relevant initiatives and contribute to the development of expert occupational therapy services.



To manage the most complex caseload within the Cancer Service, using advanced clinical reasoning, critical thinking, reflection and analysis to support assessments using a client centred approach.

To act as a specialist advisor to the Cancer service and related specialities.

To lead a designated team of Occupational Therapists providing leadership for senior and junior staff and Occupational Therapy Assistants through supervision and performance management.

To act as a clinical source of expertise and advice being actively involved in leading on Clinical Governance and Quality Assurance in the Cancer service.

To be responsible for the maintenance and development of own CPD identifying and contributing to the evidence base of Occupational Therapy and Cancer Care.

To support the management of the Occupational Therapy Service as required by the Trust Head Occupational Therapist.

Students are accepted on placement from several training schools. The Department has structured in-service training and personal development programmes. Staff are encouraged to attend courses to continue their clinical development and participate in multi-disciplinary audit and research.
