Job Description

Main Duties and Responsibilities General Responsibilities:



1. Supervise Students during Clinical Attachments:

? Supervise postgraduate students working in the clinic as part of their clinical attachment program, delivering implant related procedures.

? Ensure that students adhere to clinical standards, protocols, and competencies during practical sessions, offering constructive feedback to help them develop their skills.

? Monitor student progress and assess their clinical competencies to ensure they are achieving the necessary clinical milestones.

2. Clinical Governance and Compliance:

? Ensure that the high standards of clinical patient care are upheld including the implementation of patient safety, incident report, infection control and health and safety ensuring that all practices meet the necessary legal and ethical standards.

? Monitor compliance with regulations and accreditation standards, including those related to patient safety, quality assurance, and continuous improvement.

? Ensure that all students fulfil the required competencies on by supervising and evaluating their work providing feedback and guidance as required

3. Patient Consent and Patient Letters:

? Ensure that patients being treated by the students are consented appropriately using a patient centered approach ensuring that patients are fully informed about the risks, benefits, and alternatives of implant treatment.

? Ensure that all patient letters, including consent forms, post-operative care instructions, and treatment summaries, are accurately drafted and delivered.

4. Ensure Patient Confidentiality:

? Ensure that patient confidentiality is maintained at all times, following legal and ethical guidelines

? Ensure that students maintain confidentiality and reinforce best practices for handling patient information.

5. Ensure Data Protection and GDPR Compliance:

? Uphold the principles of data protection and ensure that all personal and sensitive data is handled in compliance with GDPR standards.

6. Attend Clinical and Compliance Meetings:

? Attend clinical meetings and compliance reviews as requested, contributing to discussions about clinic performance, patient care, and adherence to regulatory standards.

? Provide feedback and suggestions for continuous improvement in clinical operations and student training.

Responsibilities Specific to Implant Dentistry:

Collaboration with the Clinical Director and Implant Clinic Lead:



? Collaborate with the Clinical Director and Implant Clinic Lead to ensure high standards of clinical care and efficient management of the implant dentistry program.

? Assist in the implementation of strategic goals for the Implant Clinic, ensuring that student training and patient care are aligned with clinical objectives.

2. Adopt a Multidisciplinary Approach Seeking Support When Necessary

? Ensure that patients with multidisciplinary needs have the necessary input from other disciplines.

? Ensure that students understand the importance of multidisciplinary care and guide them through the referral process to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

3. Follow Clinical Workflow for Implant Dentistry:

? Adhere to the established clinical workflow specific to implant dentistry, ensuring that all stages of patient treatment--from consultation to surgery and restorative procedures--are performed in a structured and organized manner.

? Ensure that students follow all clinical protocols at each stage of implant treatment, from initial assessment to post-operative care.

4. Supervise Consultations and Patient Assessments for Implant Dentistry:

? Oversee student involvement in patient consultations and assessments for implant treatments, ensuring that accurate clinical evaluations are made.

? Provide feedback and guidance on patient interaction, treatment options, and the use of diagnostic tools to assess suitability for implant procedures.

5. Discuss and Facilitate Treatment Planning for Patients:

? Participate in treatment planning discussions, guiding students through the process of developing individualized, evidence-based treatment plans for implant patients.

? Encourage students to consider all relevant factors, including patient health, bone quality, and aesthetic goals, in formulating treatment strategies.

6. Help Students in Treatment Planning Process and Evidence based dentistry:

? Provide mentorship to students during the treatment planning process, helping them understand the rationale behind their decisions, including the choice of implant systems, surgical techniques, and restorative procedures.

? Foster an evidence-based approach to treatment planning that incorporates current best practices and the latest technological advances in implant dentistry.

? Guide students in the use of different planning tools including the use of digital technology (wax ups, impressions and surgical guides), intraoral photography.

7. Understand Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) and Supervise Radiation Exposure and Reporting:

? Ensure students understand and are proficient in interpreting Cone Beam CT scans to assess bone structure, anatomy, and implant placement.

? Supervise radiation exposure to ensure it is kept to a minimum and in accordance with best practice guidelines, while also reviewing and reporting on radiographic results.

8. Follow Implant Clinic Case Acceptance Checklist:

? Oversee the use of an Implant Clinic case acceptance checklist to ensure that all necessary steps are completed before proceeding with any treatment.

? Ensure that students are aware of the importance of case acceptance criteria, including patient consent, diagnostic testing, treatment planning, and financial considerations.

9. Help Students Complete Implant and Restorative Components Order Forms:

? Supervise students as they fill out order forms for implant and restorative components, ensuring that they understand the correct specifications and that the forms are completed accurately to avoid errors in treatment.

? Ensure that the clinic maintains an accurate inventory of implant components and restorative materials for patient procedures.

10. Communicate with Labs for Advanced Restorative Procedures:

? Facilitate communication between students and dental labs for advanced restorative procedures, ensuring that labs understand the specifications for crown, bridge, or prosthesis fabrication.

? Guide students in providing clear and accurate information to labs to ensure that restorative work aligns with patient treatment plans and expectations.

11. Monitor Quality Assurance of Patient Restorative Protocols:

? Ensure that patient restorative procedures are carried out to the highest standards, with close supervision of students performing restorative steps following implant placement.

? Conduct regular audits of patient cases to ensure that restorative work meets clinic standards and is aligned with the treatment plan.

12. Participate in Implant Clinic Meetings to Improve Clinical Standards and Protocols:

? Actively participate in regular clinic meetings, providing input on how to improve clinical standards, operational workflows, and patient care.

? Contribute ideas for enhancing protocols, training programs, and overall clinic performance.

13. Ensure Ethical Implant Dentistry Protocols Are Followed:

? Supervise the ethical aspects of implant dentistry, ensuring that all clinical procedures are performed with respect to patient autonomy, consent, and care.

? Ensure that students and staff follow protocols that provide informed and predictable treatment outcomes for patients.

14. Check and Sign Log Books:

? Monitor and verify student log books, ensuring that all required procedures and clinical hours are documented accurately.

? Sign off on students' log books as necessary, confirming their clinical experiences and milestones are met.

15. Participate in Debriefings and Clinical Discussions:

? Lead or participate in debriefing sessions with students after clinical sessions to review cases, identify areas for improvement, and discuss best practices.

? Facilitate clinical discussions with the team, encouraging learning and the sharing of experiences among students and staff.

Working Hours



The normal working hours are two Tuesdays a month 9.00am - 5.30pm, however, on occasion, the role holder may be requested to work outside of these hours if the programme necessitates, such as evenings and weekends. If this occurs then time off in lieu will be agreed.

Annual Leave



The annual entitlement is 3 days (exclusive of bank holidays) based on an annual allowance of 25 days. Requests should be with at least 8 weeks' notice but as early as possible. It may not be possible to take annual leave during key periods in the year which coincide with student term time.

Pay: 44,149.00-64,288.00 per year
