Summary - basic function of the role
We are looking for an experienced CNC Machinist to join our team in Cramlington, Northumberland. You will be responsible for setting up and operating CNC lathes, including 2-axis and twin-spindle multitasking machines, to produce high-precision components in line with production and quality standards.
This role involves working across both the Finish and Saw Cells, as well as other areas as needed. The Finish Cell includes processes such as sandblasting, black oxide treatment, painting, etching, and other finishing operations using standardised methods. The Saw Cell involves machining using equipment such as horizontal and vertical cut-off saws and manual lathes.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Set up and operate all equipment within the manufacturing cell efficiently
Read and interpret process sheets, drawings, and sketches to determine setup and specifications
Perform precision measurements and quality inspections to ensure dimensional accuracy
Identify and report defects; initiate corrective actions to processes, drawings, or programs
Support other cell operations as needed, including during machine cycles
Assist with cross-cell equipment operation when required
Manage orders using Kanban or Scheduler input, including WIP creation, closure, and inventory transactions
Follow all safety procedures and report any injuries, regardless of severity
Keep work area clean and organized
Perform additional duties as required
Skills and Competencies
Strong communication with internal and external stakeholders
Interpret engineering drawings and apply GD&T principles
Understand speeds and feeds for machining various metals
Proficient with micrometers, calipers, electronic gauges and similar tools
Comfortable working in metric and imperial units, including metric conversion
Familiar with Oracle ERP systems and MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Continuous-improvement mindset and problem-solving skills
Read and write safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
Apply basic algebra, geometry and dimensional verification techniques
Follow written, oral or diagrammed instructions in standardized situations
Self-directed, action-oriented and able to manage multiple priorities

Education and Experience
BTEC Level 3 (or equivalent) qualification
Proven experience setting up and operating CNC lathes (Fanuc control preferred) and mills
Experience with CAM software (preferred)
Familiarity with Celos MAPPS (DMG Mori) and multitasking lathes (preferred)
Track record of producing close-tolerance, high-quality components
Proficient in Windows, Outlook, Excel, Word and standard ERP functions
