Job Description

Trackwork has developed to become one of the UK's leading providers of construction and engineering services to the rail network. The Hetton facility manufactures fabricated (point and splice) crossings. Our manufacturing capabilities extend from supplying simple turnouts to designing and supplying complex double junctions and scissors crossovers on either composite, concrete, slab-track or timber crossing bearers.

We are now looking for a CNC Milling Machine Operator/Minder.

Definition and Purpose of the Role



The Milling Machine Operator / Minder role is split into three main areas:

Setting of the product on the machine within a set of given parameters; Ensuring tooling is tipped correctly for a quality and efficient cut; Operating the milling machines to support quality & production needs.

Key Responsibilities



Responsible for selecting the correct NC programs within the machine in a systematic manner using the appropriate tooling for the cut required. Ensuring that products are manufactured following drawings and other relevant specifications. Ensure processing time is minimised and all product features are produced to specification. Liaise with colleagues to ensure appropriate tooling is available and used to optimise machining time and tool life. Liaise with colleagues to ensure programs are used as intended or modified to incorporate improvements.

General Responsibilities



Assist in the development of railway-related products and other manufactured components. Evaluate manufacturing processes by applying own skills, knowledge and experience and liaising with customers, suppliers and operators. Assure product and process quality by establishing standards, testing methods, testing finished product and process capability. Maintain product and company reputation by complying with safety, quality and environmental regulations and legislation. Promote a positive approach to behavioural safety and legislative compliance in the workplace. Assist with the effective planning and coordination of manufacturing orders. Collaborate with all relevant departments and suppliers to meet quality, cost and time requirements. Follow the latest industry developments and maintain awareness of industry and process innovation.

Qualifications and Experience Levels



Time served machinist. Qualifications in a manufacturing / engineering discipline. Able to read and understand engineering drawings Technical knowledge of manufacturing processes, components and techniques.
Advantageous but not essential:

Gantry Mill experience 'Long product' experience Product and industry knowledge REPW drawings Heidenhain control systems Fagor control systems CNC Milling Machines Overhead crane operation
The facility is currently working a dayshift pattern. As the business continues to grow, there may be the need to work a two or three shift pattern as business needs dictate.
