Mini Gears Stockport Ltd is an award-winning engineering Company that supply a wide range of gears and machined components worldwide to various industries. We are looking for a CNC Turning Programmer/ Production Engineer to join our team.

Job Summary


We are seeking an experienced

CNC Programmer and Production Engineer specialising in turning operations

to join our dynamic manufacturing team. In this role, you will be responsible for programming, optimising, and overseeing precision turning processes to ensure high-quality production and efficiency. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong experience in CNC turning to take ownership of programming and production engineering in a technically diverse and autonomous role.

Key Responsibilities



Program and optimise

CNC turning machines ( Doosan, Victor, HAAS) using

Fanuc

controls to ensure efficient and accurate production.

Manage and maintain

the DNC system and oversee program control across the turning department.

Continuously improve machining processes

by critically evaluating and optimising cutting methods, speeds, feeds, and tooling strategies. This is a key responsibility within the role, ensuring efficiency, precision, and quality in production.

Drive production efficiency

and reduce waste through proactive process improvements and lean manufacturing principles.

Represent the turning department

in APQP meetings, contributing technical insight during new product development.

Select and procure tooling

for new components, ensuring timely availability in line with production schedules.

Monitor and control tooling costs

, ensuring alignment with departmental budgets and cost-saving initiatives.

Develop and prove out

CNC programs for new and complex turned components, ensuring first-time-right quality.

Create detailed setup sheets

and supporting documentation to guide shop floor operations.

Track and analyse cycle times

, collaborating with engineering teams to identify and implement performance improvements.

Support and train production staff

, sharing best practices in CNC turning and promoting skills development.

Interpret engineering drawings and 3D models

independently, ensuring accurate translation into machining operations. Apply

Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)

principles to ensure precision and compliance with specifications.

Program multi-axis turning centres

(e.g., Mazak Integrex with live tooling) where beneficial. Utilise

Fanuc, and Fusion

(or similar OneCNC CAD/CAM software) for both online and offline programming. Collaborate with tooling suppliers to

introduce new tooling solutions

and machining methods. Apply

continuous improvement methodologies

such as

Kaizen

and

5S

to enhance workflow and productivity.

Requirements



A

HND/HNC in Manufacturing Engineering

or a closely related discipline.

Apprenticeship-trained

or fully qualified CNC programmer with a solid background in turning operations. Demonstrated expertise in

offline and online programming

for CNC lathes/ Turning Centres. Strong knowledge of

machining techniques

for complex turned components. Proficiency in

Fanuc

control system. Ability to confidently

read and interpret engineering drawings and 3D CAD models

. Solid understanding of

Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)

. Experience in

tooling selection

and working collaboratively with tooling suppliers.

Pay: 40,000 - 45,000
