The Council are seeking a Collections and Learning Assistant with a specialism in the natural sciences, to be based within the Colchester team of Colchester and Ipswich Museums Service (CIMS)
Duties of the role

This 2-year post is generously funded by Greyfriars Hotel, Colchester, to support the redevelopment of Colchester's Natural History Museum. You will be working with the Collections and Learning teams to audit, document and research the Natural Sciences collection as a basis for creating and delivering new learning workshops, training and resources for schools. Including teacher and community consultation and outreach.
In late 2024 The Natural History Museum was awarded a grant by the National Lottery Heritage Fund for the initial phase of the museum's planned 5 million redevelopment. This Greyfriars Hotel, Colchester funded post will work alongside the project team to conduct collections and community-based research which you will use in the development our formal school's programmes and informal learning opportunities.
Qualifications and skills required

To be successful in this role, you will have English, Maths and science at Level 2 (GCSE or equivalent) and Level 3 (A-Level or equivalent) in a relevant natural sciences subject.
This role will include frequent contact with colleagues across CIMS, in schools and the community so you must excel in team working and have excellent communication skills.
This role is based around the Natural Sciences collection so you will need experience or clearly evidenced interest in working with natural sciences.
As well as research and development you will also be involved in 'face to face' delivery on our sites and in schools, so confidence and experience with children and young people is a must!
