Job Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated and commercially astute Commercial Consultant with expertise in project controls to join our growing consultancy team. In this pivotal role, you will support clients in the successful delivery of complex infrastructure and capital projects by providing strategic commercial guidance, robust cost control, and performance insights throughout the project lifecycle.
You will work collaboratively with project teams and stakeholders to implement best practices in project planning, budgeting, risk management, and change control. This role offers the opportunity to influence project outcomes, drive efficiencies, and add value from inception through to project closeout.

Responsibilities
Provide commercial support across all phases of the project lifecycle, from planning to closeout.
Implement and manage robust project controls systems, including cost, schedule, risk, and change management.
Monitor project performance against budgets and schedules, identifying variances and recommending corrective actions.
Develop and maintain detailed cost forecasts, cash flows, and earned value metrics.
Lead or support the preparation and evaluation of project estimates, bids, and tenders.
Conduct risk and opportunity analysis to inform commercial decision-making and project strategy.
Prepare and deliver regular commercial reports and dashboards for internal and external stakeholders.
Work closely with planners, quantity surveyors, and contract managers to ensure accurate cost and time integration.
Support contract management activities including interim valuations, payment applications, and final accounts.
Advise clients on best practices in commercial governance, performance measurement, and compliance.
Drive improvements in project delivery efficiency through data analysis and process optimisation.
Experience
Proven experience in project controls within commercial or construction environments, ideally supporting large-scale infrastructure or capital projects.
Strong background in cost management, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
Hands-on experience with project scheduling tools (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project) and cost control software.
Experience preparing and analyzing commercial reports, risk registers, and earned value management (EVM) data.
Familiarity with contract types, claims management, and commercial dispute resolution processes.
Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply contract terms in a project environment.
Experience working collaboratively with project managers, planners, quantity surveyors, and procurement teams.
Track record of supporting tender preparation, bid evaluations, and pricing strategies.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to provide insightful commercial advice to support decision-making.
Experience in change management processes, including impact assessment and reporting.
Knowledge of industry standards and best practices in project controls and commercial management.
