will lead, coordinate and develop the estimating, scheduling and project management functions within the business. Working closely with the Managing Director and Commercial Director, this role ensures accurate estimating, efficient scheduling, structured handovers, and effective communication internally and externally, driving customer service levels and responsiveness.
This is a hands-on leadership position - you will learn how to process and lead from the front. The post-holder will work closely with the team day-to-day, driving performance, improving workflow, and ensuring customer commitments and internal deadlines are achieved. They will also take responsibility for team leadership from an HR perspective - including attendance, attitude, performance, and general people management.
Key Responsibilities
Operational & Scheduling Management
Oversee scheduling and production loading to ensure work is programmed efficiently and realistically in line with business capacities
Lead task allocation and coordination to ensure utilisation of resource maximised.
Maintain and update schedules using Excel (and other internal tools).
Monitor and highlight production risks, clashes, or delays early with proactive solutions.
Ensure handover to purchasing is complete, correct and timely.
Estimating & Commercial
Manage the estimating function, ensuring quotes are accurate, timely and commercially aligned.
Support commercial director in pricing strategy, margin control and quote approval.
Review customer information, drawings and specifications for completeness and accuracy.
Support customer order processing & ensure clear project handover internally.
Project Coordination & Communication
Act as a central communication hub between Estimating, Projects, Purchasing and Operations.
Coordinate customer service queries, variations, changes and lead-time expectations.
Ensure customers receive accurate and timely updates through the project lifecycle.
Improve visibility across the business through effective documentation and reporting.
Team Leadership & HR Responsibility
Provide day-to-day management for the estimating, scheduling and project support team.
Lead by example in behaviour, work ethic and professionalism.
Manage attendance, lateness, absence reporting and attitude/performance matters.
Support training, development, reviews and structured feedback.
Drive accountability and positive culture within the department.
Skills, Experience & Attributes
Required
Proven leadership or supervisory experience in an office, commercial or scheduling environment.
Strong organisational ability and attention to detail.
Competent in Excel (basic formulas, data organisation, scheduling).
Comfortable handling multiple priorities and changing deadlines.
Clear and confident communicator - written, phone and face-to-face.
Hands-on, proactive and solutions-focused approach.
Desirable
Experience in manufacturing, construction, fabrication or similar project-based industry.
Experience in estimating, project coordination or scheduling.
Process-improvement mindset - able to identify gaps, simplify complexity and streamline workflow.
