About this opportunity
Westmorland and Furness Council is looking for a professionally qualified and skilled officer who is competent and confident to manage, supervise and support a dedicated team in their increasingly busy and demanding day to day duties, act as lead officer and to be responsible for the delivery of Food Safety, Infectious Disease Control, Port Health, Occupational Health and Safety, Licensing Authority and Stray Dogs functions in the Commercial Services Section of Public Protection. You will possess robust and up to date knowledge in all of these areas, be able to demonstrate excellent people, performance and resource management skills.
You will be a fully qualified Environmental Health Officer with at least three years\xe2\x80\x99 post qualification experience in food safety, health and safety and infectious disease work and will be expected to manage a practical personal workload and assist in the supervision, management and development of the service.
As lead officer, you will ensure that risk-based inspections and interventions of local business including food businesses, offices & shops and other commercial or licensed premises are conducted to ensure compliance with Environmental Health, Licensing and Animal Welfare legislation and where appropriate provide legal advice and investigate criminal offences with a view to reporting for formal legal action.
To be successful, you will be a self-motivated and enthusiastic team player, possessing excellent communication, organisational and analytical skills. This post is ideal for someone looking to progress their career with a new unitary authority.
