Job Overview


Since reopening the Cross Keys Inn in 2023, we have built a strong reputation for our welcoming atmosphere, quality food and lively themed food nights and we're super proud to be the Scottish Thistle Awards Pub of the Year 2023 and 2024.

Now, we're looking for a Commis Chef to join our kitchen team. If you're looking for your next step into a busy professional kitchen and have some experience under your belt, this is a fantastic opportunity to learn and grow in a well-respected, community-focused pub.

With approximately 40 covers in the bar and restaurant plus seven guest bedrooms, the kitchen team are responsible for cooking up classic pub meals, delicious breakfasts and Sunday Roasts. Our ideal candidate will assist in all food preparation and service, contribute to the smooth operation of our kitchen, while also ensuring the highest standards of food safety and quality.

Duties


- Assist in the preparation of ingredients for seasonal menus, ensuring freshness and quality.

- Support senior chefs in cooking and plating meals according to established recipes and presentation standards.

- Maintain a clean and organised kitchen workspace, adhering to hygiene and food safety regulations.

- Help manage stock levels, including receiving deliveries and storing food items appropriately.

- Collaborate with the kitchen and front of house team to ensure efficient service during busy periods.

- Participate in training sessions to enhance culinary skills and knowledge of food production techniques.

- Manage breakfast service once trained

Skills



- Minimum of Level 2 Food Safety & Hygiene Certificate.

- Proficient in food preparation techniques and interested in menu development.

- Strong understanding of food safety practices and regulations within a kitchen environment.

- Excellent teamwork skills, with the ability to work collaboratively under pressure.

- Basic leadership qualities, demonstrating initiative and a willingness to learn from senior chefs.

- A passion for hospitality, the Scottish Borders and delivering exceptional dining experiences to guests.

- Flexibility to work mornings, evenings and weekends

This role is currently 35 hours a week. In addition to a monthly salary, all team members receive a share of tips.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From 12.36 per hour

Expected hours: 35 per week
