Job Description


Our prestigious children\'s publishing client, located in London, is in search of a commissioning editor to join their highly illustrated Non-fiction team. In this role, you will be responsible for commissioning and developing new projects while overseeing the backlist, collaborating closely with senior editorial staff. Your primary objective will be to ensure that your area of the publishing list aligns with market demands and drives sales growth. The focus of this list predominantly encompasses non-fiction and gift book publishing, including titles designed for very young readers.

Key Duties:

  • Actively contribute to shaping the imprint\'s acquisition and editorial strategy.
  • Identify opportunities for publishing and propose acquisitions and projects to expand the list and contribute to the establishment of a cohesive fiction publishing program within the commercial market landscape.
  • Take charge of all commercial aspects of your projects, including pitching, cost analysis, contract negotiation, budgeting, and scheduling.
  • Oversee all aspects of your titles throughout the publishing process, ensuring the quality and punctuality of editorial and design work.
  • Assist in cultivating author brands.
  • Develop and nurture relationships with industry experts and literary agents.
  • Advocate for and promote your titles within the organization, effectively conveying their marketability to the sales and marketing teams, including presentations at sales conferences and launches.

  • Foster effective internal relationships and maintain a high level of engagement while identifying opportunities, including those within relevant social media platforms.
If you possess experience in commissioning your own titles and have several years of senior editorial experience in children\'s publishing, including program planning, contract negotiation, and budget management, coupled with a deep understanding of the children\'s book market, along with a proven track record in acquiring and publishing non-fiction and gift books across various genres, we eagerly anticipate your application.
