Job Description

This is a part-time post of 14 hours per week, paid at 12.21 per hour, and is fixed-term until 31 March 2026.

The role involves carrying out minor repairs and general maintenance, ensuring the building and outdoor areas are safe, clean and welcoming. Duties will include grounds maintenance such as gardening and litter picking, key holding and opening/closing the centre, supporting the set-up and take-down of community events, and engaging positively with members of the public, staff and volunteers.

The successful candidate will be practical, dependable and able to work independently, with a flexible approach to working hours. Availability to work evenings and weekends is essential to meet the needs of centre activities and events. Appointment to this post will be subject to a satisfactory Access NI check.

This is an excellent opportunity to play a hands-on role in supporting a valued community space and contributing to a welcoming environment for all who use the centre.

Shortlisting Criteria



Previous experience in a caretaking, maintenance, handyperson or facilities-related role is preferred. Practical skills with the ability to carry out minor repairs and general maintenance tasks. Ability to work independently and manage tasks effectively, as well as work as part of a wider team. Good communication and interpersonal skills, with confidence interacting with members of the public, staff and centre users. Willingness to work flexibly, including evenings and weekends.

Desirable Criteria and Qualifications


These will be used for shortlisting purposes in the event of a large number of applicants.

Qualifications:

A relevant qualification or training in caretaking, maintenance, health and safety, facilities management or a related field.

Experience:

Experience of working, in a paid or voluntary capacity, within a community centre, public building or similar environment, including key holding and supporting events.
