Promote holistic high quality Maternity service that advocates pregnancy and birth as a normal physiological event. The Team Manager has the responsibility to lead the community midwifery team and oneself in the provision of woman centred care, working under the direction and collaboratively with the Community Matron. Working alongside the Community Matron and Better Births lead Matron to support development of geographical teams based in community. Practicing in accordance to best practice informed by NICE and Better Births 2016, National Maternity report and the National Transformation programme 2016, helping to imbed initiatives such as 'Saving Babies Lives Care Bundle' also to support collaboration work within the regions STP footprint and CQC recommendations.
The role encompasses the responsibility for direct line management of all staff supporting/coaching staff in problem solving and decision-making, ensuring the clinical environment is safe and practitioners provide evidenced based high quality maternity care, a responsibility to facilitate learning for all staff, ensuring that the clinical areas provide experience that is conducive to formal learning. Provide midwifery care in accordance in the NMC midwives Standards and Codes of Professional conduct.
To take responsibility for the provision of sound clinical, educational and managerial leadership to a team of midwives and support staff within the community setting. You are responsible for providing Leadership and Management skills associated with educational, Health and Safety, audit, reducing risks, supporting staff and self-development, enhancing the team leads structure within the community.
To provide care, support innovative and up to date advice to women and their families in all care settings, in accordance with the Midwives rules and standards.
Ensure that, within available resources, the community environment is adequately staffed and take all possible action to minimise clinical risk to women/babies as well as professional and personal risk for self and others when optimum staffing levels are compromised.
Take a lead with the coordinator on ensuring clinics and on-call rota is covered within the community setting.
Effectively manage staff in order to provide safe standards of care. Check the duty rota on a daily basis. Liaise with colleagues on the unit.

Mandatory participation in a clinical on-call rota for community .
Identify inappropriate staffing levels/skill mix and take remedial action.
Develop and enhance skills as required in line with service developments.
Deploy staff to the level of their ability when allocating caseloads and recognise the need for adjustment as the workload and caseload alters. Take responsibility for the organisation of midwifery caseload assigned to each team in conjunction with the outpatient Matron.
Promote the wellbeing and safeguarding of children and young people by implementing the Trust's policy and procedures, acting promptly on concerns, communicating effectively and sharing information appropriately.
Adhere to local and national legislation, protocols and guidance. Ensure policies and guidelines are embedded and consistently followed within the unit contributing to their development. Participate/lead in clinical audit and research to improve the planning and delivery of midwifery services.
