Young People Relate seeks to engage, motivate and assist young people to reach their full potential through positive engagement, consistent support and positive redirection when at a cross road in their journey in life. We provide one to one key working, counselling and mentoring support in order to positively re-engage young people with services i.e School, Social Services, Youth Offending Team, Foster Placement and Community.

YPR key workers will be responsible for the management of a caseload and the delivery of interventions and programmes designed to preventing offending and anti-social behaviour by children referred to the panel.

Main Duties: (including Responsibilities and Accountabilities)



To work to meet the needs of children and their families. This may include working in the mornings, afternoons, evenings, nights and at weekends, as required by line management.
To ensure that equality of opportunity and anti-discriminatory practice is a priority throughout all areas of the work. To manage a caseload and deliver one to one support to children at risk of becoming involved in:

Offending or anti-social behaviour Settling into a new placement Is disengaged from education Is at risk of offending / reoffending Has social anxiety Has vulnerability risk attached to their personal progression
To partake in a quality assurance process to ensure that all written reports to outside bodies, including the Young People Relate, are scrutinised for appropriate information, language and anti-discriminatory practice.

To advise Review Meetings on the contents of Engagement SupportPlans and work alongside other agencies to ensure all elements of theEngagement Support Plan are provided.

To deliver interventions appropriate to the areas of risk factorsidentified through the referral and assessment process. This includes providing mentoring work with children and young people and parenting support work to their parent(s) or carer(s). All work with children, young people and their parents or carers should be undertaken in partnership.

To provide individual support and face-to-face contact with children cooperating with an ESP according to locally agreed / national standards.

YPR Key Workers will undertake work with children and young people and their families in a wide variety of settings, e.g. schools, youth clubs, home environment, pupil referral units, detached work.

YPR Key Workers will be trained to undertake risk assessments for activity based work and responsible for producing written risk assessments / risk control plans.

To maintain appropriate case management records in manual written case files.

To refer all child protection / safeguarding issues to the YPR Line Manager. Where a child on the YPR Key Worker's caseload becomes subject to either a Child in Need assessment or Child Protection proceedings, the YPR worker will provide written information about their role to the meetings and case conferences (including review conferences). They will also attend Child in Need meetings, Strategy Meetings, Case Conferences and Core Group meetings, as appropriate.

To participate constructively in supervision with the YPR Line Manager

To maintain confidentiality with regards to all written and computer based information and to ensure that where information is to be shared appropriate consent is obtained, if required.

Staff responsibility



The support worker may encounter individuals with challenging behaviours, which require specialised strategies and techniques

The core of the role is providing individualised support tailored to the specific needs and preferences of each person

Complex needs can arise from various factors, including learning or physical disabilities, autism, mental health conditions

Ability to relate to and communicate with people across a wide age and ability range, and from diverse backgrounds.

Essential Knowledge



Familiarity with a range of strategies and methods of working with children and young people with a range of disabilities.

Knowledge of the issues faced by children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities and their families

Knowledge of safeguarding, risk assessment and health and safety procedures

Knowledge of how to communicate with children and young people with complex needs

Experience of communicating with children and young people with complex need

Experience of dealing with risk assessments, safeguarding and health and safety issues

.



Role Requirements



Successful applications will be required to participate in staff training and development programmes.

A condition of the role is that all staff members must complete all CPD (Accredited Personal Development) courses they are enrolled onto within the necessary timeframe set by their line manager.

The role requires a satisfactory Enhanced DBS certificate.



Job Types: Part-time, Temp to perm, Zero hours contract
Contract length: 12 months

Pay: From 12.50 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 10 per week
