The role
As the Compliance Manager, you will lead the improvement in timber compliance across the CTH group, drawing on your knowledge of the forestry and timber sectors, along with your extensive understanding of the United Kingdom, European Union Timber Regulations (UKTR & EUTR) and the upcoming European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR).
Key aspects and responsibilities include:
Managing the in house compliance team whilst working closely with procurement, operations and shipping teams to enhance engagement with suppliers, third parties and industry bodies
Managing the processes associated with the demonstration of compliance with UKTR, along with adherence to all relevant national and international legislation relating to forest management and timber trade
Implement procedures and collect additional data to aid customers in the compliance of EUDR
Working with key internal stakeholders on purchasing and sourcing governance ensuring timber compliance is successfully incorporated into supply chain processes
Acting as the Chain of Custody Manager, ensuring compliance across the company (FSC, PEFC and generic chain of custody)
Maintaining a robust due diligence system to ensure compliance with the EU/UK Timber Regulations
Representing the company at external committees supporting wider industry improvements
Training colleagues, helping to improve their understanding of the significance of responsibly sourcing products and the importance of meeting all policy requirements and strategic targets
The person
Demonstrable experience ideally in timber compliance management
Experience in understanding relevant legislation, certification standards and assurance schemes
Excellent understanding of UKTR, EUTR and FLEGT Licencing
Understand/experience the FSC/PEFC accreditation schemes
Experience of internal/external COC auditing process
Experience in mapping timber compliance risk in a regional context
Ability to understand and interpret trends and highlight remediation pathways to support suppliers and the business
Demonstrable ability to work cross-functionally with diverse stakeholder needs
Ability to build strong working relationships with multiple stakeholders
Confident negotiator and influencer
Thorough, process orientated, systematic and logical in thought and communication
Confident in presenting challenges, project updates and proposed resolutions.
Strong team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Willingness for regular travel with the UK.
