We now have a brand new opportunity available for a Composite Fitter to join our busy Engineering Team. The role has become available due to the growth of the company.


Slingsby Advanced Composites is based in Kirkbymoorside, North Yorkshire, we produces complex composite structures that are predominantly used to manufacture vital parts on ships, submarines and aircraft. The job role of an assembly fitter involves the skilled assembly and fitting of composite components, ensuring strict compliance with stringent process around bonded joints and inserts.

A Composite fitter is a crucial player in the composite ecosystem, responsible for maintaining safety, and reliability of various composite parts, for aeroplanes and helicopters. Work is detail-oriented, demanding precision, problem-solving skills in some cases on new projects, and requires an understanding of assembly approaches.


Core Duties and Responsibilities



The primary functions of an assembly fitter are extensive and varied, encompassing both scheduled and unscheduled build activities. The role requires a blend of mechanical, and assessment ability, and attention to documentation and process adherence.


Assembly and Production: In manufacturing settings, fitters are responsible for the detailed fitting and production of components, ensuring they comply with engineering specifications and meet timed deadlines. This often involves assembling both metal structures, working with composite materials, and potentially performing other specialist bonding process. Troubleshooting and Diagnosis: A significant part of the job involves supporting / solving mechanical and assembly problems while using data or manufacturing process to meet the needs of drawings or client specifications. Fitters will need to use various gauges and instruments to ensure parts and fittings are correctly assembled. Documentation and Compliance: All work must be documented to cover all elements of process control requested by company process, such as PCFC as well as issued drawings. Fitters are responsible for accurately filling in all documentation and required registers. Adherence to health, safety, and environmental and COSSH around materials use and storage are paramount. Tool and Equipment Management: They are responsible for the correct use, control, and maintenance of a wide array of hand tools, power tools, and specialised fitting and testing equipment.

Work Environment and Conditions



The work environment for a fitter can vary significantly, especially around NPI projects so an assembly fitter needs to be agile and have an ability to support tandem activities. Many of the process are performed in controlled workspaces and areas along with the occasional requirement to work in shifts to ensure continuous manufacture due to the nature of some materials and bonding practices. Key Employment Terms



Salary: 30,000 - 38,000 Location: Office Based Hours: 37hrs/ week, Monday to Friday, half day on a Friday Holiday entitlement: 200 hours annual leave plus statutory bank holidays Sick pay entitlement after 3 months. Standard auto-enrolment pension scheme, with the option to contribute 9% of gross salary for a 5% contribution by the employer.
