Project Overview

Eastern Green Link 1 (EGL1) is a landmark HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) transmission project that will enhance the UK's electricity transmission capacity. The project includes the construction of two converter stations and associated infrastructure, enabling the efficient flow of renewable energy between Scotland and England and supporting the UK's Net Zero targets.

Role Purpose

The Construction Manager will lead the end-to-end delivery of all on-site construction activities related to the converter stations on the EGL1 project. This includes civil works, electrical and mechanical installations, building services, site logistics, interface coordination, and commissioning support. The Construction Manager will act as the principal site representative, ensuring safety, quality, and schedule compliance across all disciplines.

Key Responsibilities

Overall Site Leadership:



Act as the primary site lead for all converter station construction activities.

Oversee multidisciplinary construction teams (civil, structural, mechanical, electrical).

Coordinate with design, commercial, HSE, and commissioning teams to ensure aligned delivery.

Programme Management:



Develop, monitor, and manage construction schedules and work fronts.

Ensure the timely sequencing of works and resolution of construction constraints.

Health, Safety & Environment (HSE):



Champion a safety-first culture on site.

Enforce HSE policies in line with legal and contractual obligations (including CDM Regulations).

Lead site safety briefings, audits, and incident investigations.

Quality Assurance & Compliance:



Ensure quality standards are upheld across all works.

Oversee inspections, handovers, and documentation for all construction phases.

Coordinate with QA/QC teams and verify completion of work packages.

Stakeholder & Contractor Management:



Manage subcontractors and suppliers to deliver works to plan and specification.

Liaise with clients, consultants, statutory authorities, and internal stakeholders.

Host site meetings and progress reviews.

Risk, Change & Interface Management:



Identify and mitigate construction risks early.

Manage changes in scope and ensure proper integration across civil, mechanical, and electrical interfaces.

Ensure construction aligns with design intent and site constraints.

Commissioning Interface:



Support commissioning and energization phases by aligning construction completion with test readiness.

Facilitate safe turnover of systems for commissioning teams.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential:



Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline.

15+ years of experience in major infrastructure or power projects, including multidisciplinary site management.

Proven leadership on large-scale EPC or HVDC/substation/converter station projects.

Excellent understanding of construction practices across civils, M&E, and commissioning.

Proficiency in construction planning tools (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project).

SMSTS and first aid qualified (or equivalent).

Desirable:



Prior experience with HVDC converter station delivery.

Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or equivalent.

Knowledge of NEC, FIDIC, or similar contracts.

Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 48 months

Pay: 550.00-650.00 per day

Schedule:

Monday to Friday Weekend availability
