Job Description

We are looking to engage an experienced self-employed subcontractor on a CIS basis to support ongoing and upcoming projects. This role is offered on a subcontract basis, with work offered as and when available. Hours and continuity of work cannot be guaranteed.

Key Responsibilities



Site Preparation:

Preparing construction sites by clearing debris, setting up barriers, and ensuring all tools and materials are ready for use. Assuring all paperwork is correct and up to date.

Material Handling:

Project materials are purchased and ready to use for each project, working with project coordinator and admin. Loading, unloading, and moving building materials, equipment, and tools around the site using manual handling methods or machinery like forklifts or dumper trucks.

Operative Tasks:



Carry out excavation and backfilling mixing and pouring concrete for foundations. Install foundations, formwork, shuttering, and concrete works, Lay block paving, tarmac and slabs, installation of digital units & timber frames.

Assist with setting out using lines, levels, and basic surveying equipment.

Operate hand tools, power tools, and small plant.

Read and interpret drawings and method statements.

Maintain quality and productivity standards, working at height.

Install/remove and maintain road furniture (advertising panels), signage, and street works.

Work within live traffic environments following traffic management plans.

Maintain safe working areas and public protection.

Platform, station, and structural works.

Work safely within possessions and under PICOP / COSS instructions.

Always follow rail-specific safety rules and procedures

Site-based role

Will involve travel, early starts, overtime, nights.

Exposure to outdoor and physical working conditions

Equipment Operation:

Operating various hand machinery and power tools (drills, pumps, compressors, jackhammers) and potentially heavy plant machinery if certified.

Safety and Compliance:

Following all health, safety & environmental procedures and regulations, including always wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Maintenance:

Cleaning and maintaining tools, equipment, and the overall site.

Required Skills and Qualifications



Certifications:



Driving licence (Essential)

PTS (Personal Track Safety) certification (Desirable)

CSCS Card (Desirable.)

Sentinel competencies (Desirable)

NRSWA Street Works (Desirable)

IPAF (Desirable)

First aid (Desirable)

Manual handling (Desirable)

Experience:

Proven experience in a similar construction or labouring role. Multi-skilled experience across various trades is highly desirable.

Physical Fitness:

The role is physically demanding, requiring high levels of strength, stamina, and the ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions for extended periods.

Technical Skills:

Knowledge of building and construction methods, an understanding of basic engineering principles, and the ability to use a variety of tools and machinery.

Licence:

A full and clean driving licence is required, as operatives may need to travel to different sites.
