A prestigious, leading university have an exciting opportunity for a Contracts Manager to join their team of 8 in their London Campus. The role is permanent, full-time position and you will be based on site 3 days, with the flexibility to work 2 days remotely.

The Role:

This is to join an esteemed academic institution and play a pivotal role in facilitating cutting-edge academic research as a Contracts Manager. As a member of the Research Contracts team within the Faculty of Engineering, you will be at the forefront of reviewing, drafting, negotiating, and gaining approval for a diverse range of research contracts with renowned entities, including prominent companies, top-tier firms, start-ups, government departments, academic collaborators, and charitable organisations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Draft, review, and negotiate various research and research-related contracts.
  • Utilise in-depth knowledge of contractual issues, including intellectual property, confidentiality, liability, VAT, publications, and other related matters within the framework of institutional policies.
  • Collaborate with academic and departmental staff to prepare draft agreements considering specific project requirements.
  • Liaise with sponsors, academic staff, and administrative staff to reach agreement on changes to draft contracts.
  • Provide clear and concise advice on costing and pricing of contracts.
  • Undertake due diligence and risk management activities in line with institutional policies.
  • Maintain a comprehensive contract activity log and stay abreast of policies governing research in the higher education sector.
  • Line management of 2 staff members (after 6 month probation period)
Person specification:
  • Education: A degree in Law or equivalent qualification, or substantial relevant work experience
  • Experience: Demonstrable experience in negotiating research and research-related contracts and costing/pricing, ideally within the higher education sector or a similar context (e.g. research and development/ IP Law)
  • Line management experience or, willingness to develop into this as after 6 months you will be line managing 2 staff members
  • Knowledge: Very good knowledge of contracting issues, intellectual property, confidentiality, publications, liabilities, and a thorough understanding of market-related issues.
  • IT: Proficiency in IT skills, including computerised and web-based administrative systems.
