Company Overview

We are a reputable medium-sized construction company delivering high-quality retail, leisure, office, and commercial projects across the UK. With a growing pipeline of work, we are seeking an experienced Contracts Manager to oversee groundworks, civils, and general construction operations. Experience or understanding of fit-out projects would be advantageous.

Role Summary

As Contracts Manager, you will be responsible for the management and delivery of multiple construction projects, with a strong focus on groundworks and civils. You will take ownership of site operations, ensure health and safety compliance, and manage both people and processes to achieve successful project outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee and coordinate groundworks, civils, and construction packages across one or more live sites.

Set out and check levels for roads, drainage, and footpaths using laser levels.

Manage, coach, and motivate site teams and subcontractors across various trades and disciplines.

Ensure all works are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.

Produce and maintain daily and weekly site reports and paperwork.

Liaise with clients, consultants, and internal teams to ensure smooth project delivery.

Identify and resolve issues proactively to avoid programme delays.

Uphold high standards of health and safety, ensuring all teams adhere to legal and company standards.

Delivering toolbox talks and site inductions where necessary.

Essential Requirements

Proven experience as a Contracts Manager in groundworks, civils, and general construction with a minimum of 10 years relevant experience.

Firsthand ability to set out and check levels using laser equipment.

Strong leadership and people management skills.

Able to manage and deliver multiple projects concurrently.

Excellent communication and organisational skills.

Sound understanding of health and safety legislation and compliance.

Competent in report writing and site documentation.

Experience in fit-out projects (advantageous but not essential).

Flexible and adaptable with a problem-solving mindset.

Qualifications & Certifications

Full UK driving license

CSCS Card

DBS clearance (or willingness to undergo)

SMSTS or similar health and safety qualification
