We are seeking a dedicated and motivated CCS Operative to join our dynamic team. The purpose of the role is to perform mechanical assembly, fabrication, and associated production operations for heavy-duty conveyor chains, ensuring all work meets required specifications, quality standards, and production deadlines. The role also includes occasional mechanical strip down and reinstatement of conveyor chains and ancillary equipment on customer sites.
Responsibilities
Participate in all aspects of chain production, including assembly of sub-assemblies and full chain builds by hand.
Perform production operations to complete detail parts for chain fabrication, including:
Mechanical cutting and cropping of raw materials.
Power/brake press operation to produce flat blanks and to form detailed parts, including press setting.
Carry out welding operations (downhand and vertical positions) on mild and stainless steels as required (fillet and butt-welding qualifications to be arranged).
Operate a variety of hand tools, power tools, and mechanical equipment to support assembly and fabrication activities.
Read and interpret technical drawings, work instructions, and production orders accurately.
Visually inspect and verify the quality of parts, components, and materials, checking own work against specifications and work instructions.
Complete all relevant documentation accurately and in a timely manner, maintaining proper production and quality records.
Perform mechanical strip down and reassembly of conveyor chains and ancillary equipment on customer sites as required.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment in line with 5s principles and following all health, safety, and environmental procedures.
Contribute effectively as an individual or as part of a team to achieve production targets and customer delivery requirements.
Support continuous improvement initiatives and actively participate in training and development activities.
Skills/Qualifications and experience:
Previous experience in mechanical assembly, metal fabrication, or heavy manufacturing (essential).
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and work instructions.
Skilled in operating mechanical presses, cutting equipment, and hand tools.
Basic welding skills in mild and stainless steels; willingness to obtain formal qualifications if not already held.
Strong focus on quality, with the ability to self-inspect work.
Good mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability.
Ability to work independently or collaboratively within a team environment.
Flexible attitude towards varied tasks and willingness to travel to customer sites when required.
NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Mechanical Engineering, Fabrication & Welding, or a related field (preferred but not essential).
Welding certification (training and qualification can be provided if needed).
Overhead crane and/or forklift truck licenses (desirable).
Full UK Driving License/preferably own transport.
