to join a small, friendly team at our independent pub in a middle-class, family-oriented area of Brighton. You'll be responsible for preparing a range of fresh small plates, bar snacks, and occasional Sunday roasts.
This is
not a high-pressure chef role
-- we're after someone with solid kitchen experience, a strong work ethic, and pride in what they plate up. Ideal for someone wanting to step up from KP or commis cook roles or return to pub kitchens without the chef stress.
What You'll Be Doing
Cooking fresh small plates and bar food (tacos, halloumi fries, loaded nachos, wings, etc.)
Meal preparation, ensuring all ingredients are fresh and of high quality.
Preparing sharing boards (cheese & charcuterie, vegan grazing boards).
Creating simple, seasonal Sunday roasts with a lighter summer twist.
Maintaining cleanliness and organisation in the kitchen, adhering to food safety standards.
Collaborate with kitchen staff to ensure timely service during busy periods.
Assisting with inventory management, ordering and stocking supplies as needed.
Monitoring food presentation and portion sizes to ensure consistency and quality.
Occasional prep for events, specials or community nights
Participate in menu planning and development, contributing creative ideas for new dishes.
What We're Looking For
Experience working in a pub or cafe kitchen (at least 1 year preferred).
Comfortable handling prep, cooking and keeping a clean, safe kitchen.
Familiarity with food safety regulations and best practices in the kitchen.
Ability to work independently.
Strong culinary skills with knowledge of various cooking techniques and cuisines.
Ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining attention to detail.
Passion for food and consistency -- we want to serve tasty, simple plates well.
Good communication skills and ability to work as a team.
Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings and weekends as required.
Level 2 Food Hygiene (preferred).
