Crossroads Community Hub is a local charity which is seeking to expand their team with a Cook to support our food activities at Ayrshire Food Hub.

Ayrshire Food Hub is a vibrant community-led space promoting local produce, healthy eating, and community connection. Our cafe is at the heart of the Hub -- serving nutritious, freshly prepared meals and offering a warm, inclusive welcome to all.

Job Purpose:



We are looking for a passionate and experienced part-time Cook to prepare wholesome, locally sourced meals and contribute to a positive, community-focused kitchen environment. You'll work closely with the Lead Cook to deliver high-quality food that reflects our commitment to sustainability, health, and local produce.

Key Responsibilities:



Prepare and cook a variety of meals, snacks, and baked goods in line with our cafe's seasonal menu

Collaborate on menu planning with an emphasis on local and sustainable ingredients

Maintain a clean, safe kitchen environment in line with all food hygiene and health & safety regulations

Oversee stock management, food rotation, and minimise waste

Support and guide volunteers or trainees working in the kitchen

Provide excellent customer service and engage positively with cafe visitors

Assist in catering for community events and educational workshops

Person Specification:



Essential Qualifications & Experience:



Proven experience in a commercial or community kitchen

Sound knowledge of food safety, allergens, and hygiene regulations

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a small team

Friendly, inclusive attitude and strong communication skills

Desirable:



Experience working in a community cafe, social enterprise, or volunteer-led kitchen

Valid Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2 or higher)

City & Guilds 706/1 and 706/2, or S/NVQ in Professional Cookery (or equivalent)

Menu planning and budgeting experience

Knowledge of sustainable food practices, local produce, or food waste reduction
