Almond Valley Heritage Trust is a much-loved family attraction and heritage charity, welcoming over 140,000 visitors each year. Our mission is to offer a first-class visitor experience that weaves storytelling, history, and education into all aspects of our work - including our food offerings. Our on-site farm and growing facilities provide opportunities to create a food program that reflects the local history and heritage of Mill Farm and the wider region.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and cook a range of menu items including light meals, children's dishes, and home baking.
Maintain high standards of food presentation, portion control, and consistency.
Support day-to-day kitchen operations, including opening, service, and close-down procedures.
Follow all food hygiene, health and safety, and allergen control procedures (including CookSafe).
Monitor stock levels and inform supervisors when supplies need replenished.
Assist in keeping kitchen areas clean, tidy, and organised always.
Occasionally assist with catering for special events, school groups, or outside functions.
Provide a warm and positive presence in the kitchen, contributing to a collaborative team culture.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
At least 1 year's experience in a similar cooking role (e.g. cafe, tearoom, commercial kitchen).
Understanding of food hygiene standards (REHIS Elementary Food Hygiene certificate or willingness to obtain).
Ability to work efficiently under pressure during busy service times.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Flexible and dependable, with a positive, can-do attitude.
Desirable:
Experience working independently or in a lead role during service.
Familiarity with combination ovens and allergen procedures.
An interest in seasonal produce and locally sourced ingredients.

These good-value snacks and light meals will have special appeal to families with young children. We are now recruiting for a cook who has flair and passion for good food, and the skills to prepare delicious dishes promptly and to order in a fast-paced working environment.
Applicants should have employment experience in equivalent situations and must have a current food hygiene certificate, although an accomplished home cook might be considered. Experience in the use of combination ovens would be an advantage.
The position is offered on a full time (40 hour) basis, which will include working Saturdays and Sundays. The normal hours of work at 9 to 5. We might alternatively consider filling the post on a part-time basis.
