Job Description

We are a small family run care home with 24 residents, The cooks role is to provide high-quality, nutritious, and well-balanced meals that meet the dietary needs and preferences of residents in a residential care home setting. The Chef is responsible for the preparation, cooking, and presentation of meals, ensuring that food hygiene and safety standards are always maintained.

Initial hours are 9am to 4.30pm working everyother weekend and some bank holidays 22.5 to 30 hours a week , the applicant must be willing to cover shifts during periods of holiday and sickness.

Key Responsibilities:



Plan, prepare, and cook meals in accordance with the dietary requirements and preferences of residents, including modified and specialist diets (e.g., diabetic, low-salt, pureed). Ensure meals are nutritious, well-balanced, and visually appealing. Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organised kitchen at all times, complying with food safety regulations (HACCP, COSHH). Manage food stock levels, including ordering supplies, checking deliveries, and ensuring effective stock rotation. Monitor and record fridge/freezer temperatures and maintain accurate food safety records. Liaise with care staff to ensure residents' individual dietary needs and meal preferences are met. Oversee kitchen assistants , ensuring high standards of cleanliness and teamwork. Participate in internal audits and inspections from Environmental Health and other regulatory bodies. Prepare special meals for events, celebrations, or themed days as required.

Person Specification:



Essential:



Previous experience as a Chef or Cook, ideally within a care, healthcare, or similar setting Knowledge of special dietary requirements and nutrition for the elderly Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 2 or above) Good organisational and time management skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Strong communication and interpersonal skills Flexible and adaptable to meet the changing needs of the service

Desirable:



NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Professional Cookery or equivalent Experience in managing kitchen budgets and ordering supplies Understanding of allergen legislation and labelling requirements
