Part-Time Cook - The Gillygate Bar and Tea Rooms

The Gillygate is looking for a calm, capable, and food-loving part-time cook to join our small kitchen team. We serve a tea room-style menu that includes a variety of comforting, homemade dishes--think breakfast favourites, light lunches, afternoon teas, and classic British bites. Our focus is on fresh ingredients, thoughtful preparation, and friendly presentation.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys cooking in a slower-paced, relaxed environment where quality and consistency matter more than speed. Whether you have previous experience in a similar setting or are just passionate about preparing good food for good people, we'd love to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities:

Preparing and cooking a range of tea room-style dishes to order (e.g. full English breakfasts, sandwiches, soups, quiches, jacket potatoes, cakes, and more) Supporting the planning and prep of specials and seasonal menu additions Maintaining a clean and organised kitchen space throughout service Following food hygiene and safety procedures (training and support provided if needed) Helping to monitor stock levels and communicate with the front-of-house team regarding orders and availability Assisting in occasional event catering (e.g. cream teas, small functions, or special weekends)

What We're Looking For:

Someone with a genuine love of cooking and an interest in traditional British food and tea room fare Previous kitchen experience preferred but not essential--we value enthusiasm and a willingness to learn A calm, organised and tidy approach to work, even during busy periods Awareness of (or willingness to learn about) food hygiene and allergen safety Availability on weekends and during daytime hours A team player who's happy to support where needed and communicate well with others

Working Hours & Pay:

This is a part-time position, with daytime shifts and weekend availability required.
Hours and rota can be discussed to suit the right candidate.
Pay is competitive and based on experience, with the opportunity for more hours over busy periods and holidays.
