Alongside our existing contracts, G3 Systems has successfully secured a long-term international programme, creating an exciting opportunity to hire a

Crew Manager

to support its fire service delivery.

The successful candidate will be based on Ascension Island and work closely with military and civilian stakeholders to ensure the continued safety and protection of personnel and property on the island. There may also be a requirement to liaise with the Ascension Island Government (AIG) regarding fire safety and protection of AIG assets, however this interface is normally managed by others.

It is a small station in a very isolated location so the candidate must have the ability to keep a skilled team of personnel active and engaged to ensure staff are adequately trained for incidents, skills fade is kept to a minimum and response times are adhered to.

Task Descriptions:



The Crew Manager (CM) is responsible to the Fire Station Manager (FSM) and/or the duty Watch Manager (WM) for the effective daily running of the Fire & Rescue Service Duty Crew.

To supervise Firefighting & Rescue Operations at Structural Fire Incidents, Road Traffic Incidents, and or other related emergencies requiring the attendance of the Fire & Rescue Services.

Provide Command & Control at all structural Firefighting Operations, until the arrival of the Senior Fire Officer.

Assume the role of Sector Commander at all Firefighting Operations until the arrival of the Senior Fire Officer.

Act as deputy for the Watch Manager in during his/her absence.

Implement Defence Fire Regulator (DFR) policy, ensuring full compliance with Operational Directives, Chief Fire Officer's Instructions (CFOI).

Adherence to Health & Safety Regulations, within the framework provided for all Fire Service duties.

Ensure Quality & Assurance (Q&A) policies within the Fire Service administrative structure are maintained to ensure Full Compliance is achieved at all DFR, CAPITA, STRATCOM & QHSE Audits.

Provide Fire Safety Awareness training to all HM Forces, MOD Employed Civilians, Crown Servants.

Liaise and work with the G3 Fire Section in all aspects of fire command, control, and management.

Work with the Mitie and G3 Systems Ltd QHSE Teams to develop and maintain the Fire Service H&S safe systems of work.

Understand and support the Watch & Fire Station Manager in all aspects of engagement and support with third parties including Mitie Defence, AIG and CAPITA.

Understand and implement the daily maintenance tasks as raised by the Mitie Asset Coordinator.

Support third party audits and inspections as required.

Relevant Experience & Technical Competence



Ex Local Authority or Ministry of Defence candidate.

Current UK Structural Firefighting experience as a Crew Manager.

At least 3 years fire officer experience with at least 1of those in the Crew Manager position.

At least 7 years firefighting experience (Structural),

Up to date CPD for all core competencies for firefighting operations,

Experienced with HAZMAT Response (Limited to Containment)

Competent use of a range of fire service pumps and associated equipment.

Knowledge of Fire Service lines and ancillary equipment when used in conjunction with pumping operations on the incident ground.

Be able to operate basic foam making equipment and apply finished firefighting foam on the incident ground.

Have an awareness of the phased approach to working at Road Traffic Collisions (RTCs) and recognise associated hazards relevant to RTCs.

o Vehicle stabilization and glass management techniques.

o Basic use of hydraulic rescue equipment safely and effectively.

Use of Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) set and ancillary equipment.

Safe Systems of Work (SSOW) in risk areas when wearing BA.

Science of combustion and compartment fire behaviour.

Hazards and risks associated with compartment fires

VISA Requirement



Must be able to attain an Ascension Island working visa issued by the Ascension Island Government.

o The Visa requirements include the ability to attain an ACRO Police Certificate and ability to pass stringent medical and dental checks as required by both the Ascension Island Government and the UK Ministry of Defence.

International Travel:



The role will require long term oversea deployment in Ascension Island

Qualifications/Skills Essentials Required

IFE Level 3 Certificate in Fire Service Operations or hold an equivalent Qualification IOSH Managing Safety (As defined in the NFCC Core Learning Pathway) Valid LGV class 2 Driving License, Breathing Apparatus Wearer Certificate.
Level 3 Leadership and Management or ILM/CMI L3 NVQ in Leadership and Management (desirable)

First Aid Instructor (desirable)

NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety

Fire inspector level 3. (Ideally & desirable NEBOSH National Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management)

Level 3 certificate in Education & Teaching (desirable)

Remuneration & Benefits:
