The customs specialist position will be responsible for managing import and export clearance procedures. Their duties will include preparing and verifying customs documentation, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, and coordinating with customs authorities and logistics providers. They will also support the company in resolving any customs-related issues and contribute to optimizing customs processes to ensure timely and cost-effective shipments.
Key Responsibilities
Checking the correctness of import documents and contacting the logistics operators
Working alongside with carriers and sea lines
Creating the necessary documents in the system for the tea import process
Cooperation with the saniatry authorities
Manage customs clearance processes for both import and export shipments.
Prepare and submit accurate customs documentation in accordance with UK HMRC requirements and all relevant regulations (e.g., UK customs laws, Incoterms, trade agreements, etc.)
Monitor and track shipments to ensure timely delivery
Handle tariff classification, valuation, and duty calculations
Stay up to date with changes in customs laws and procedures post-Brexit
Skills, Knowledge and Proficiency
At least 2-3 years of professional experience in import/export procedures and documentation in a manufacturing environment on a customs agent position or handling transportation processes
Familiarity with HMRC systems (e.g., CDS, CHIEF)
Extensive knowledge of UK customs regulations and procedures
Fluency in English (both spoken and written)
Certification in customs or international trade (e.g., UK Customs Academy, CILT)
Knowledge of post-Brexit trade changes and UK-EU import/export requirements
