An exciting opportunity has now arisen for a Customs & Trade Business Partner \xe2\x80\x93 Clinical, to join our Global Indirect Tax Team and make a tangible impact to one of the fastest growing and innovative FTSE 100 companies in the world.

This position is responsible for supporting Clinical Operations in all customs and trade matters. You will be their first point of contact and you will be expected to support from both a strategic and operational perspective. Clinical operations move material globally and therefore the role holder must have a global view and a broad consideration of customs matters end to end.

This position will be part of the Indirect Tax function and will report to the Regional Customs & Trade Lead, EMEA and will work with the clinical teams as well as Regional and Local Customs and Trade Managers based in the US, APAC and the EU on Customs matters key to the AZ Group.

The role holder must possess strong technical capabilities and business acumen and possess excellent written and communication skills to be able to present to Senior Management, Clinical Distribution, Supply Chain Groups and the AZ Corporate Finance function.

Major Responsibilities

Develop and maintain customs and trade compliance processes, tools and technologies (for example SAP GTS) required to support Clinical Manufacturing and Supply teams.

Evaluate risks and identify customs regimes to ensure optimal clinical supply chains.

Act as a functional SME for the clinical operations teams.

Ensure that clinical supply chains and distribution adhere to the key areas of trade management and compliance.

Develop a deep understanding of the company\xe2\x80\x99s clinical strategy to ensure that the role delivers aligned solutions regarding trade management and compliance.

Create and Develop processes for Clinical Business Units to manage the spend relating to tax and duty costs incurred during clinical supply chain distribution.

Monitor changes to global import / export / customs requirements and ensure that relevant changes are implemented.

Develop and deliver training on key customs and trade matters to key stakeholders.

Minimum Requirements

The role holder will have considerable relevant Customs experience preferably in a corporate or professional environment. They will have a deep understanding of Customs law and its application to valuation, origin, classification and Customs regimes and authorisations (for example Inward Processing, Foreign Trade Zones, AEO etc). The role holder must have the ability to take a strategic view while bringing to bear appropriate focus on the underlying detail.

In addition, the role holder must demonstrate sound judgement and be able to make timely decisions and recommendations regarding potentially material issues in circumstances where there is either uncertainty or incomplete information.

Skills and Competencies

Strong experience within a customs and trade environment.

Strong understanding of Customs laws and how they apply to global supply chains.

Degree or other Finance / Business qualification relating to International Trade beneficial.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to identify and communicate key issues for resolution.

Thinks strategically \xe2\x80\x93 Anticipates the future by always maintaining a forward oriented long-term view. Develops plans that are based on what is likely to happen and continually flexes the strategy to accommodate new business and tax technical information.

Problem solving oriented and a well-developed creative approach regarding complex Customs issues.

Good analytical skills - Proficient in MS excel essential, experience in MS Power BI desirable.

Acts decisively \xe2\x80\x93 Creates clarity for other to make decisions by defining clear roles and responsibilities.

Ability to evaluate/manage relationships with external service partners.

Works collaboratively \xe2\x80\x93 Works across boundaries, particularly with the Customs teams in UK, Sweden and the US, to establish common purposes and goals to deliver value to the business.

Rapidly addresses issues that may inhibit effective collaboration.

Familiarity of the pharmaceutical/clinical supply chain environment advantageous.

Good communication and influencing skills are also required.
