Purpose
Would you enjoy teaching the people we support new skills in the beautiful Forest of Dean?
We have an opening for you to join us as a Day Opportunities Lead at our communities in Gloucestershire, to help ensure that each of the Green Care Programmes offer a suitable, effective environment for the people we support, one which is safe, stimulating and welcoming to all. This role will involve leading Green Care sessions in the garden and creating a programme of suitable activities to enhance the wellbeing of those attending.
The Programme Lead will be supporting small groups of people with mixed abilities; some may have limited mobility. This role will involve working closely with other members of the Green Care and Land team to develop and deliver high quality programmes within the gardens.

This role will be based at our Grange Village and Oaklands sites in Newnham-on-Severn and Taurus Crafts in Lydney. You must be able to travel to these locations. There will be travel required between locations as part of your role.
Duties & Responsibilities
Main responsibilities:

• All roles require you to be presentable, on time and prepared for the day ahead.
• You will be attending regular mandatory trainings, forums and other areas of personal development.
• Prepare and deliver sessions for people we support, developing structured session plans to support the aims and objectives identified for those attending.
• Complete Green Care documentation including observation records and working with people we support to document their progress through workbooks. Providing input for review sessions. Work as an active member of the Green Care team, making effective use of the facilities, equipment and sharing resources to enable a wide range of opportunities for those who attend the workshops. At times you may be required to support with animal care and garden maintenance work outside of session times.
• Ensure that all people we support have appropriate risk assessments in place and other related paperwork including support plans, as appropriate to participate in tasks, and can experience variety and progression. Evidence learning and development of individuals through regular reviews.
• Ensure compliance, health and safety and organic certification standards are met and maintained to evidence to quality assurance and external bodies.
• There is a need to work alongside the extended Gloucestershire Community teams including Care & Support, office staff and management.
• All areas require a creative, flexible way of working with the promotion of inclusion and individuality, and to celebrate achievement using a person-centred approach at all times.
• Regular supervisions, compliance with contractual requirements and adherence to health and safety/first aid procedures must be undertaken.
• Work within the Trust policies and procedures and code of conduct and actively promote the equality and diversity and the human rights of people we support to realise independence, choice, inclusion and control, in all areas at all times.
• You will be required to perform duties other than those given in this job description. The duties and responsibilities may vary from time to time.
• Report any safety events, safeguarding concerns or other significant issues through appropriate channels as outlined in the relevant policy and procedure.
• Awareness of your environment with due notice given to recycling, reduction of waste and ensuring equipment is both working safely and effectively.
• To comply with the Trust's policies and procedures, including safeguarding, equality & diversity and data protection.
• To comply with the statutory provisions of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential

• A suitable level of education is required.
• Level 2 or 3 NVQ in care or an equivalent qualification is highly desirable (applicants without a social care qualification will need to be able to evidence the competencies to be considered).
• You will be required to attend a Care Certificate course.

Desirable

• Health and safety qualification.
• First aid at work.
• Safeguarding.
• Basic food hygiene.
• Thrive or horticultural qualification.

Knowledge & Experience
Essential

• Working with adults with learning disabilities and/ or volunteers.
• Experience/ knowledge of the programme area: gardening/ horticulture.
• Working knowledge of risk assessment, health and safety, safeguarding, person-centred planning, equalities and human rights essential.
• Basic computer skills.

Desirable

• Experience of teaching or delivering group activities.
• Animal care knowledge (hens/ small animals).
• Organic land management knowledge.
