Job Description

This is an opportunity to work in a busy and expanding dental surgery in Lytham. Your role as an apprentice dental nurse will be to support the dentist in all aspects of patient care, this includes getting the appropriate instruments ready, mixing materials and ensuring patient comfort. You will also take notes from dentists dictation for computer records and once the patient has left, the dental nurse cleans and tidies the surgery and sterilises all of the instruments. You will also have the opportunity to work alongside the practice dental therapists.

Additionally, you will assist with reception work - making appointments, taking payments, dealing with paperwork and meeting and reassuring patients.

You will also be required to:

Comply with all relevant policies, procedures and update training Supporting and assisting the range of clinicians onsite Prep. of clinical areas including instrumental sterilisation, cross infection control and all relevant information, equipment and materials in readiness for the treatment of patients Maintain a fully prepared surgery at all times Maintain adequate stock levels To be conversant with basic first aid and resuscitation techniques by attending regular updates To keep surgeries clean and tidy
Hourly Apprenticeship Rate: 5.28 + as per Government guidelines

Once qualified and registered, the starting salary for permanently employed dental nurse at the Practice is 11.56

Ideal position for a school leaver.

40 hours per week. 08:45 - 17:45 (1 hr unpaid lunch). College 18:00 - 21:00 most weeks (paid or time in lieu); at the moment most of the college course is online.

Required Skills

A good communicator with both oral and written skills, be able to work as part of a team and be supportive.

Have a friendly and caring nature and desire to help patients.

Required Qualifications

Must have passed GCSE's in both English and Maths (grade 4 (C) or higher)

Further GCSE's desirable.

Future Prospects

Opportunities exist within the Practice to further develop your career by taking further qualifications such as radiography and implant qualifications. Some of our nurses have subsequently progressed onto University Dental Therapist training.
