Deputy Head Veterinary Nurse – Warrington

Warrington, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

Leadership without losing clinical work. Genuine 4-day week. Well-equipped practice.

If you love nursing but want more say in how things are done

If you are an experienced RVN who enjoys supporting others, improving standards, and being hands-on clinically, but you are not looking to step away from the floor entirely, this role is likely to resonate.

This is for someone who wants progression with purpose, not just a new title.

The Opportunity

We are working with a well-established, forward-thinking veterinary practice in Warrington, that has invested heavily in its people, facilities, and clinical standards. They are now looking for a Deputy Head Nurse to support the Head Nurse and help guide the nursing team as the practice continues to grow.

This is not a clipboard-only role. You will remain actively involved in consulting, inpatient care, and surgery, while also playing a key role in clinical governance, team development, and continuous improvement. Your voice will matter here, and your experience will be valued.

They are looking for someone who enjoys collaboration, takes pride in high standards, and wants to help shape how a nursing team works together day to day.

Why This Role Is Different

A leadership role that stays clinical

You will split your time between leadership responsibilities and hands-on nursing. This includes supporting protocols, mentoring colleagues, and driving efficiencies, while still working across consulting, inpatient, and surgical duties.

Facilities that support excellent care

You will be working with genuinely impressive resources, including two operating theatres, a dedicated dental suite, digital and handheld dental x-ray, ultrasound, in-house lab facilities, isolation unit, multiparameter monitoring, and separate wards for dogs, cats, and small animals. There is also a growing orthopaedic caseload for those who enjoy complex nursing.

A team that values development

This practice is big on continuous learning. CPD is actively encouraged, supported, and aligned with your interests, not treated as a tick-box exercise.

Work-life balance that is actually respected

A true 4-day working week with 9-hour shifts and a 1-in-4 weekend rota. Flexibility is genuinely open for discussion, because they recognise that sustainable careers need balance.

Your Journey Here

In your first month

, you will focus on settling into the team, understanding systems and protocols, and building strong working relationships with both the nursing and veterinary teams.
