YMCA Brighton is seeking to hire a Full-Time Deputy Manager to join their team at William Collier House, based in the City Centre of Brighton, East Sussex.

Salary:

38,251.20 per annum with additional pay for on-call duties

Hours:

Monday to Friday 9 am - 5 pm

Overview of the Role of Deputy Manager:



To support and deputise the Manager of the project in their absence. Through Personal and Key working Supervision to encourage and develop members of the project team to their full potential. In conjunction with the Manager, to ensure that the project meets all its legal and contractual obligations. To ensure that the project offers a safe rehabilitative home for all clients. To play a lead role in ensuring that the project and its staff maximise the independence and skills of clients - through key working, internal provisions, ie work & learning through EVOLVE, YMCA Brighton and accessing external specialist support services.

Requirements of the Role Deputy Manager:



1) In conjunction with other senior staff, interviewing and assessing prospective clients for accommodation.

2) In conjunction with other senior staff, interviewing, appointing and managing ancillary staff.

3) Supervising, directing and supporting staff to ensure performance standards. Carrying out an annual appraisal of staff for whom you have direct management responsibility.

4) Attending senior staff meetings to monitor and progress the project's performance in accordance with Brighton YMCA's policies, budgets, aims and plans. Carrying out and overseeing necessary actions and performance targets arising from these meetings.

5) Undertaking administrative tasks for internal and external purposes. This may include, but not exclusively, compiling monitoring data and statistics, producing details for accounting or wage purposes, amending rotas and updating records.

6) Overseeing and carrying out the instructions of senior managers in ensuring adherence to YMCA Brighton's published policies and procedures.

7) To follow Brighton YMCA's policies and procedures at all times, including, but not only, those relating to EDI, Health and Safety, Safeguarding, and Data Protection and Confidentiality. To respond to all reasonable instructions and guidance as these procedures develop further.

8) To follow Brighton YMCA's Code of Conduct for staff, regarding workplace professionalism, at all times.

9) In line with GDPR and Confidentiality, Clients, volunteers, and/or staff information is confidential. It is a condition of employment that you will not use or disclose any confidential information obtained by data protection legislation.

10) All staff have a duty to safeguard and promote the welfare of service users, volunteers, their families, and carers, you have a duty to ensure you are familiar with safeguarding policies, attend safeguarding training, and know who to contact if you have concerns about an adult or child's welfare.

11) Meeting and consulting with individual clients in order to assess needs and to plan support goals.

12) Overseeing that support goals set for all parties are met and reviewing those goals where necessary.

13) Accessing, liaising with, and developing links with other organisations and services to deliver appropriate care, support and advice for clients.

14) Participating in casework supervision, personal supervision and appraisal as requested.

15) Maintaining detailed casework files, and keeping accurate records of each individual's needs and progress. Creating and managing correspondence, reports, key working and diary notes in relation to this task.

16) Monitoring the security and safety of the project, taking action as necessary to ensure that health and safety standards are maintained.

17) Ensuring that clients comply with the terms of their license or tenancy, and with any rules set by the project, liaising with the manager as appropriate.

18) Attending internal team meetings and representing Brighton YMCA at external meetings, case conferences and reviews as appropriate.

19) To carry out 'on-call' duties which will be arranged on a rota basis and for which an additional sum will be paid.

20) Complete all required training online and/or in person.

21) Identifying and attending training as directed by the manager.

22) To undertake any other duties which reasonably fall within the range and responsibilities of this post, as directed.

Personal Specification of the Role Deputy Manager



Knowledge and Understanding


Essential



Clear knowledge/understanding of the potential issues facing homeless/ vulnerable adults and of housing/ mental health/ community care services and processes.
Clear understanding of confidentiality and information-sharing issues and their application in practice
Clear understanding of boundaries to the worker/client relationship.
Desirable
Working knowledge of welfare benefits.
Understanding/knowledge of the 'Supporting People' initiative and related quality standards.
Understanding of personnel/ employment issues or processes

Experience


Experience of working with vulnerable people within a housing, support or residential environment.
Experience of providing advice and/or creating support plans
Experience in liaising and developing links with outside agencies/ professionals.
Experience of supervising or directing the work of others.

Skills and Abilities



Strong organisational, time-management and administrative skills
Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of staff members, clients, outside agencies and visitors, both verbally and in writing
Ability to work to own initiative and as part of a team.
IT literacy to at least a 'Word' level and willingness to develop these skills.
Ability to manage problematic, pressured, or challenging situations.

Other Requirements
