Duties
Children's care, learning and play
Support practitioners in meeting the needs of the individual children and families, ensuring children's basic needs are always met, including but not limited to; good hygiene routines, nappies, meals encouraging good nutrition, planning and assessment etc
To ensure that planning is completed and carried out and meets the needs of individual children, working with their interests, following the Early Years Foundation Stage framework
To assist the staff team in setting up a safe and stimulating environment for children, (this may include packing away) ensuring a child centred environment providing a play-based approach to children's learning
Promote positive attitudes and behaviour at all times by providing a non-discriminatory environment which values and respects each child and family, ensuring an inclusive and safe environment having regard for SEN and safeguarding procedures and legislation
Encourage parental involvement within the nursery, including parents consultations, events, and using parents as partners in their child's learning and liaising with parents daily
Be responsible for equipment and resources (which may include ordering and budgeting) and report when resources are running low
To ensure a positive working relationship amongst the key people and families of the children within setting
Health and safety
To be responsible for reporting accidents or health and safety issues and be conscientious of risks that may arise which may cause harm to children.
To implement and ensure health and safety guidelines and checks and adhere Once Upon a Time's policies and procedures, including but not limited to on-going cleaning and sterilising duties within the setting, to reduce the spread of infection
Staff
To support the manager in effectively leading and supporting all nursery staff, students and voluntary workers. Ensuring a good level of supervision and support with their daily duties including training and development, individual supervision, observations and discipline, making sure that the nursery has a strong, reliable and consistent team
Work as part of a team, guiding and sharing good practice. Supervising and mentoring voluntary, work experience students and staff who are still training
To support the settings appointed persons in their role and taking on that role in their absence such as SENCO, Behaviour management coordinator
General
To work with the manager to ensure a high standard of childcare and education and ensuring positive working relationships
To be responsible for the day to day running of the nursery in absence of the nursery manager
Be aware of and act in accordance with all relevant current legislation and ensure that all policies and procedures are implemented and adhered to at all times
To assist the manager with their administrative duties associated with the running of the setting, such as maintaining records on the children and their families, inventories, personal records, taking fees, budgets and accounts etc.
To work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, carers and other multi professionals, to help support the development of the children within your care
To work in partnership with the manager to oversee the efficient upkeep of the nursery, ensuring regular checks and maintenance of equipment, furniture and resources
Assisting with the marketing, fundraising and advertising of the nursery to ensure the nursery runs to its full capacity and remains profitable
To support the management in the effective leadership and running of the setting
To organise staff, room and planning meetings these will be out of nursery hours
Organising nursery events such as parents evenings, fete, annual trips, festivals and special events, that involve parents and carers (these may be out of nursery hours)
To develop the setting by involving yourself and staff team in projects and programmes some of which will be initiated by the Local Authority
Support the senior management team with audits and inspections from the Local Authority and Ofsted
You may be required to work extra hours, this will be repaid back using time-in-lieu at a time which is suitable to the nursery
You may be required to cover at another Once Upon a Time setting

Requirements
NNEB, BTEC National Diploma, NVQ Level 3 in childcare and a minimum 1 years post qualifying experience or 2 years employed in a childcare setting
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of current child care legislation; EYFS framework, health and safety (RIDDOR & COSHH), safeguarding guidelines, equal opportunities, SEN
Experience of working in a multi-agency and multi-disciplinary environment
Administrative and financial skills to maintain records monitoring systems, petty cash, budgets etc.
Ability to cope under pressure, use own initiative and work independently
Fit and healthy with good personal hygiene
Motivated towards the development of the setting and all the staff employed in it
To be flexible to work a shift system and do extra hours as required, which will also include out of hours meetings and occasional events
Honest and reliable with a commitment to self-development and continual professional development
Knowledge of Ofsted and what they represent, including the inspection process
Experience of record keeping and general nursery administration
Enthusiasm and enjoyment for working with children
Good verbal and written English and ICT skills
Good organisational, administrative and time management skills
Experience with working collaboratively with colleagues, parents, carers and other multi professionals, and to be able to support fellow colleagues, guiding them and sharing good practice
Have an approachable nature with a friendly outlook, and positive attitude
A positive approach to learning and gaining new skills through teamwork and training opportunities and help build a strong "team" environment
Knowledge and experience of key worker system
To be able to work as part of a team and support fellow colleagues, guiding them and sharing good practice
Practical knowledge of child development and an awareness of planning the children's curriculum within the Early Years Foundation Stage, and be developmentally appropriate to the ages and stages of individual children
